The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year. In celebration of the arrival of summer, hundreds of yogis (including me!) participated in "Mind Over Madness Yoga" right in the middle of Times Square. Now, most of you have been to Times Square, you KNOW what it's like. Here's two photos: In this photo, I'm all the way at the left margin of the pic in a yellow shirt. True, you can't tell it's me, but it is. It poured on us at one point, but that's okay, who cares!!! A great, self-awareness time was had by all!!! The event ran from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Welcome summer!!!!!! Namaste.

The lady in the blue shirt to the right actually looks like someone I know!!!!! It's probably not but it could be..... A great way to celebrate Summer Solstice. We celebrate it in the evening on June 23rd by making a bonfire and burn a witch. No, not a real one (anymore) but a witch made of straw and old clothes. This burning sends the witch to Bloksbjerg, the mountain 'Brocken' in Germany where the great witch gathering is. I guess the yoga event is a lot more peaceful Take care and keep smiling - Chris

HEY, I like your way!!!! Count me in for sure!!!!! I highly recommend yoga or Pilates for anyone, any age. You come away with such an awareness of self, of what you body can do, without mindlessly lifting weights or walking nowhere on a treadmill; at least, that's how it is for me. And, mind you, you are getting a wonderful work-out! I have just returned from my practice of Hatha Yoga, and have returned to my regular practice of 3 days a week and I'm so pleased to be back!
Namaste.

Namaste. I know, I've said it a few times. Once I give you its meaning, you will love it, and you don't have to be a yogi to say it or feel it. Here it goes:
I honor the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are One.
Namaste is an Indian expression used as a greeting or upon parting, by putting the palms of the hands together in prayer position. It means, “I honor the Spirit in you which is also in me.”
This, of course, is also a way of saying, “I recognize that we are all equal.”
Walk in balance!
Namaste!

Hooley dooley!
I have to say, as a Pilates devotee for quite some years now, I cannot, just cannot, imagine myself being brave enough to strut Pilates stuff in major city thoroughfare. You go girl.
Also must agree re Pilates, the very best thing I have ever done for myself (you're either one or the other in this great city of mine, Pilates or yoga, not both for some reason).
As for Indian food, mmm, well surely there's an Indulgences thread waiting to happen?
And ... just to labour the point, it was Winter Solstice here last week, obviously on the same day as the yoga-off and other fabulous Northern Hemisphere summery happenings. 6 yr old wanted to know if the day was actually shorter ie as in number of hours - she thought school would be shorter. Darn proud of the girl's logic.
Cheers
Matilda

I can't tell you how grumpy I get, being a summer/beach-obsessed person, when I log on here while I'm sitting in the freezing cold and read about all your summer fun. Matilda

As it happens, provided it isn't raining (as it is now), I love my western Sydney winters, although the weather mood swings make it hard to dress. I sleep really well when the nights hover around 0C (not that you'd get that, Matilda - it's amazing how much a difference travelling out 50 or so kms makes) and a beautiful sunny day of around 17C can be an absolute delight.

Mmmm, looks like we are having the start of a Town/Westie blue here ... It's Ok Kas I spent the first three years of my life in Campelltown. It's my Westie Cred. I just don't like the greyness we've been having - today's sun cheered me up no end - flying in from Melbourne to sunshine and red rooves. The best. Cheers Matilda
