I had an interesting experience yesterday that caused me to think of this thread again.
I wear glasses, I have since I was seventeen. When I was in my 20's I always wore contacts, but when I got pregnant for the first time I couldn't wear them anymore, for some reason they were too uncomfortable. Yesterday I got my first pair of contacts in seven years. When I put them in and took off my glasses I felt totally exposed! It was a very strange feeling. I am so used to having glasses that it took me a couple of hours to get used to being without them. I really felt wide open and vulnerable. Weird huh? So I got to thinking about Jim and his dark glasses. Maybe he does feel less vulnerable with the glasses on. Maybe that is what his wearing glasses is all about. Maybe while he was filming, RE felt less exposed with the dark glasses on and he was more comfortable with the part while wearing them.
Might I be reading too much into this? Did I give a little too much information? Hmmmm...

In one of the interviews I read, Ron Eldard said his technique for playing a blind character was not to look at anything, and he did this even when wearing the dark glasses. Based on this, it doesn't appear he wore them when he needed to see what was going on without appearing to see. He also said he "not looked" to such an extent that he sometimes didn't know what the other actors were doing in a scene until he watched it later. As I've said in earlier discussions on this topic, I've given up trying to find a pattern in when he wears and doesn't wear the dark glasses. But if anyone else wants to watch all the episodes again to look for a pattern, go for it!
