Now this has dredged-up some bad memories about: You guessed it--- Washington, DC (the most blind unfriendly city in the U.S.)
Now I don't know what ATM you used, but there is talking one where we are. But the irony is, the instructions are in Braille, yes; but it's the "Drive-Up" window AND you need earphones. PLUS: There is a sign, not in Braille, says: "Drive Thru Only." No Pedestrian Walk-Ups.
Maybe this should be a new thread: Dumb Braille Places.

This may sound odd, but here goes. I was putting coins in the slots in the cup holders in my car (Honda Odyssey of course - what else could I drive?) and I felt what felt like Braille numbers for which coin should go in which slot. It is amazing to me that some engineer thought to do that! Is it really braille, or is it just like one dot for pennies, two for nickels, etc? And why do you drive a Honda Odyssey? I honestly don't know what braille feels like, but there seems to be a distinct pattern of dots on each of the slots. I drive a Honda Odyssey because I have three little boys 7, 5, and 3 and I am personally opposed to sport utility vehicles (for more info on that read The High and Mighty - a great book).

Yeah, there would have to be a pattern. If it's braille, it would have a number sign followed by the dot pattern for the denomination of the coin. What I meant was, does one slot have one dot, the next two, the next three, just sort of a tactile pattern, or was it "really" brailled? Just wondering, because there are times when only a few dots are used to discern different things. Like High, Medium, and Low on a heating pad, for example. Or the dot pattern on a braille watch. It's not REALLY braille, because the usual is to have three dots for 12, two for 3, 6, and 9, and only one for the rest. But the watch I have has lines at 12, 3, 6, and 9, and dots at the other numbers, because it hinges at the top instead of the side, so you readily know where 12 is. And you put that you drove a Honda Odessey, like it was your only option. I was just curious about that. Thought maybe it was because your husband is a Honda dealer, or sells Hondas, or your family only buys Hondas, etc. Why not a Dodge Caravan or a Nissan Quest? (Rhetorical question. Just because they are also vans.) See, my ex-husband has worked for a Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealership for the past 30 years, and I have been driving a Plymouth for the past 15. Why? Because I got a better deal, and they had a car I liked better than what was on the Ford lot at the time. No big deal. But Lee Iacocca has a really interesting autobiography if you want to read a good book. (He started with Ford, was on the Mustang design team, and wound up the chairman of Chrysler Corportation.)

Or, it could have braille like this: to denote pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters. I was just wondering how technical they got with it.

I am going to check in the morning and see exactly what the dots feel like. We decided on the Honda for several reasons. First and foremost, we got a good price (we bought it used). Ok, I guess that was the only reason when it comes right down to it. We shopped around a lot and decided it was the best value. My husband works in the auto industry and knows Honda to be a quality brand. Plus that is what all the soccer moms drive, so I suppose there was a bit of pier pressure. On any given day there are at least four Odysseys in the parking lot of any elementary school in my area.

We have a KIA Optima (fully-loaded) JAWS, Braille and all. Soon to have XM Satellite radio.
Usually there is none like it parked in a lot on any given day.
I'm the navigator. I tell Lucy where to go and she doesn't.
