Oh my goodness--I'm really going to have to stretch the brain cells this morning. I am embarrassed to say that it has been about a year since I saw any BJ episodes! Is that a record for this Board? Your wonderful answers (especially "compassion") after not having watched for a ywar just reinforce how memorable this show was! I, too, haven't watched in a while for the simple reason that I didn't want to "wear out" the experience: I never wanted to reach the point where I didn't get something fresh and new out of each viewing. (Please note that this does not extend to The Pilot and "Up on the Roof," which I could watch on a daily basis -- or, at this point, run in my head. ) But now? After all the great discussions lately on this board, both here and in the new analysis threads, I'm gettin' that "gotta see Jimmy" itch again. Plus, when you get right down to it, there's been so much dreck on TV in the past year that Blind Justice will seem even better by sheer virtue of comparison. ;D

1. What is the character's best trait?
Courage. I think that Dt. James Dunbar actually believes in justice and the judicial system. He is so squeaky clean on this that no matter the personal cost to himself he will chase down the truth behind a crime and this takes COURAGE. Evidence of this for me started in the second ep when he chased the father down despite the danger he was putting his job in by going against the rest of the squad while, let's face it, he was really on propbation. In the first ep it is not so clear because he also needs to solve this one to get some ground to stand on. But even there, he sticks his neck out, insisting the car is a crime scene, he follows the perp trail even though the Boss wants him sidelined with bounced checks. He does not allow anyone else's opinion to get in the way of him finding the perp.
2. What is the character's worst trait? He is SOOOOOO reserved. Like Karen we have to fight for every little glimpse into this man's emotions. Luckily for us, his face betrays him often enough that we get to see the angst and the good doctor does manage to get him to open up. BUt I'd say his resservation. Without which this would have been a far less subtle show, so although it's bad, it's good.
3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.) What he did for fun before the shooting. Sports, time off, friends? Not knowing this makes it harder to write him and since he has so shrunk his life since the shooting we don't know what he is like when he is relaxed, other than a couple of minutes through the entire series.
4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series? Cane travel. Ask Karen for help - like "I think I got turned aorund, where am I?" A full session of martial arts Hit Marty ;D A full six minute shower scene ;D

3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.) What was his relationship with his father. In 4FU, he told little Jake Crider that his father drank too. I don't think this was a line tossed out just to gain the boy's trust.
