OK, I finished a few days ago. It seems I am always late to the discussions--Second Sight, this, etc!
Like others, I don't understand how Neville pulled the sword from the hat. The last time we saw the sword, the bank goblin had it. Odd.
I was also pleased at how the last book ended like I thought. I thought that Harry would die, and he did. I didn't expect it, but I was pleased that he also lived too. I should have guessed it. All along, one of the things I loved about the series was the religious parallels. I thought of Harry as the Christ figure so I should have foreseen the resurrection! He was born but to die, as Harry came to realize.
I didn't mind the traveling about. Like Krissie, I thought it added to our understanding by giving us a general sense of despair. Perhaps a parallel too with "40 days in the wilderness".
If anyone else is interested in the Christian themes explored in the series, an excellent book is: The Gospel According to Harry Potter: Spirituality in the Stories of the World's Most Famous Seeker by Connie Neal (2002)
I think only books 1-3 were out when it was published yet it holds up well.
