Is anyone else still watching Heroes? In my opinion, the third season has been kind of a mess so far. The episodes seem to be fragmented, with no coherent story lines. And when "Peter Petrelli" appears, I have no idea if he's "future Peter" or "present Peter." I've been watching Heroes and taping Prison Break, but I think I'll do the opposite from now on. Um . . . my reaction to Heroes has been basically the same as my reaction to Prison Break: the first seasons of both shows I watched avidly, following the story lines with no problems and enjoying every aspect of both shows. Somewhere along the line they lost me in the second season of both shows, and I confess I've pretty much bailed on both. On Monday nights I watch Antiques Roadshow at 8:00, clean up the kitchen and do laundry from 8:00 to 9:00, and then, thanks to TNT, enjoy a Bones re-run now that The Closer is done for the season. Raising the Bar, that wretched excuse for a Bochco legal drama, also seems to be over for now and not a moment too soon. Let's see. The only shows to which I have any kind of addiction these days are Life, the aforementioned Life on Mars, and, back on Wednesday nights at 10:00 where it belongs, Law & Order, the Mothership, so I can get my S. Epatha Merkeson fix. The rest of the time it's surfing, Law & Order reruns, and anything on TNT that's in black in white, preferably directed by Billy Wilder. I got one of these Scarborough Reseach surveys in the mail last week, which included a week-long TV diary to fill out and boy! am I going to mess up their research big time. The networks just aren't keeping my full attention these days, with the few exceptions noted.

Good news! Life has been picked up for a full season. No word on Life on Mars yet, but after the first of the year, it will be moving to Wednesday at 10 p.m., after Lost.

Yeah for Life! Now is it just wasn't opposite Criminal Minds Where is that VCR? I've been liking Heroes. The more convoluted the plot the better! Chris, you have a lot to look forward to with NCIS. It has been great!

TV Guide reports My Own Worst Enemy has been canceled, apparently a victim of poor ratings. Bummer. But what did they expect, putting it at 10 p.m. on Mondays, up against the craptastic CSI: Miami? No word on whether any remaining episodes will be aired.

Lipstick Jungle has also been cancelled. (Does anyone care? Not me!) This is the first year I can remember when I am not watching any of the new shows. I always check every one out, but this is the first year I am not continuing. Murdoch Mysteries, January can't come soon enough!

No word on whether any remaining episodes will be aired. Darn! Again, something the least bit different (and interesting) bites the dust. I know the networks want to pull viewers their way but why oh why do they persist in putting a new show up against a ratings powerhouse? I'll admit that I used to watch CSI Miami when it was first on and then sporadically the last few years but it lost me big time when Wolfe took the nail to the eye. Well, next to the eye, whatever. I watched Lipstick Jungle once. No great loss there. Seems as if several of the hit shows from last season are hitting the skids. The writers strike sure didn't help them. I'm like you, Inuvik, I haven't tuned in to many of the new shows and even ones that I did like, such as Pushing Daisies, I haven't been watching.

Must-see TV? I have totally and completely fallen in love with "Life on Mars." Not since you-know-what have I had this kind of addiction. The characters are wonderful and written with style and verve, the plot is intriguing, and . . . okay, I'll fess up . . . I know in my old bones that they got the 1972 flavor just right: the jersey dresses and the Farrah-wannabee hairdos, the Three Dog Night and vintage Stones on the soundtrack, the muttonchop whiskers and the lingo. The muscle cars are a hoot and take me right back to "Starsky & Hutch," or maybe "Baretta." I lived in downtoan Manhattan in those years, and every time we get a glimpse of a shot (computer generated but convincing) of the twin towers looming over the skyline, it takes me right back. With a chill up my spine. Is he dead or trapped in some sort of time warp? Don't much care, I have to say. I am happily along for the ride. I am SOOO glad that LOM has gotten the "Beyond Justice" seal of approval! But as an early adopter of the Brit version and my subsequent drooling to everyone here about it 3 years ago, I relish in saying: I TOLD YOU SO. But...while the plot points are stolen from the Brit version, the American copy pales in comparison to the original. I am so disappointed in all the actors' performances, even Keitel's and Christophuh's Michael Imperioli. You should see the grit and depth of ALL the actors in original LOM -- Sam and Gene battle like an old married couple. And Sam is filled with angst. Part of it the problem with the American version is due to the script. The rewrites just fall flat. But at least they have left the twists and turns in there. I don't know what they are going to do with the American version. The original is only 16 episodes and they ended it with no room for a sequel. So conceivably, Sam could become very comfy in 1973 and stay there for 5 or 6 TV seasons. (Brit LOM creators developed "Ashes to Ashes" last year to bring Gene Hunt into the 1980's minus Sam, and I saw a couple of episodes on veoh, but it, too, paled in comparison to LOM.) If you are interested in some clips from the original LOM, go to YouTube and search for Life on Mars and John Simm, the original Sam. The difference is night and day. But I'll still watch the American LOM, just for curiousity.

Now, as for "Life" with Damian Lewis:
I read the network moved it from 10 on Fridays to 9 on Wednesdays is because the show now has enough of an audience where it can serve as a lead-in for a 10 p.m. show. WOW!
So no wonder it was greenlit for more episodes. And it's a lot easier for me to stay awake for a 9 p.m. show than one at 10. And don't they do some delicious lingering closeups of Damian and his blue eyes! Swoon!
"Fringe" started off pretty good (and weird), but it now seems to have become X-Files on psychedelics. I can't keep up, it's too weird, and I may have to switch to the Mentalist.
Something to look forward to for those of us who grew up in the '60s: AMC has developed with ITV (Britain) a new version of ......"The Prisoner." Yes, it's true. They shot it in South Africa and Number Six is now just Six. More info on the AMC Web site.

OK, I can't resist being cutesy in saying this, the tempatation is too strong---MUST RESIST--Nope, I can't. Pushing Daisies is pushing up daisies. Sheesh! I did see where they plan on an episode where all the loose ends get wrapped up. I liked the show and watched it faithfully last season but this time around I just could not get enthused. I don't know what that was all about. Wonder what they will put in its time slot? Oh, and I was sent this via email. According to the Washington Post IRT the mid-season replacements:
"On Wednesdays, NBC will save money by airing reruns of those "Law & Order: SVU" episodes -- which might be even cheaper than supersizing "Law & Order: SVU" -- in between "Knight Rider" at 8 and "Law & Order" at 10. "
What happened to "Life?"
