I read somewhere that Calista Flockhart's face seems to have stopped moving and I can only imagine her relationship with Harrison Ford is somehow responsible. How is it possible that she was believably playing an 18-year-old girl in The Birdcage just ten years ago and now she's barely passable as the 38-year-old character she's currently playing? That's just odd. Puhsonally, I think we're looking at the effects of 20 years of an eating disorder, which has got to age the hell out of you. Yeah, I know, I know, she's been going around for years saying she didn't have anorexia nervosa, but I never believed it for a minute. If you think back to The Birdcage, she was a twig, and the costumer kept her in oversized schmatas through much of the movie trying to disguise the fact. At least now she has some flesh on her bones . . . not that I'm looking all that that carefully since I've never been what you'd call a big fan of hers. I just keep forgetting that Brothers and Sisters is on, but I will give it another try. As for Studio 60, I keep trying, but now Bravo has put reruns of Six Feet Under on Monday nights. I never had Showtime and I've been hearing about the show for years and never seen it. It's wonderful. Marvelously funny writing -- and, sigh, unlike Studio 60 I mean effortlessly funny writing where the seams don't show -- so I may be taping Studio 60 for later viewing. Is anyone else out there watching Shark? I've been watching the ever-more-forgettable-with every episode ER and taping Shark, and it is a gas. Smart as hell, fast and furious, and baby! does James Woods have a way with a line. The rest of the cast is shaping up nicely, the young girl who plays his daughter is charming and there's good chemistry between the two of them. That is actually the one show I look forward to each week. That and Nip/Tuck, to which I seem to be the only addict on this board. Ah, well . . .

That and Nip/Tuck, to which I seem to be the only addict on this board. Ah, well . . . You are most definitely not the only person on this board addicted to Nip/Tuck. Each week I watch that show to see how much farther beyond the pale they will go. This is shaping up to be a very interesting season with the whole Scientology storyline with Matt and Kimber and Christian and Michelle with a little Larry Hagman (talk about rid hard and put away wet!) and Jaqueline Bissett thrown in for good measure. Oh no, I can't make it through the week without my dose of McNamara Troy.

It has to be said. Friday Night Lights is really growing on me. A lot. I can't believe I started out hating it. Wonderful show. I'm so happy I gave it a chance because I'm really starting to care about all the characters.

Sorry to repeat myself, but I really must. I love Friday Night Lights! It has somehow become the show I most look forward to every week. For a show centered around sports, it sure does make me cry a lot, but that's just because all the characters are so human.
The best thing about the show, in my opinion, is the way they're handling the rehab of the paralyzed former starting quarterback. So far, there hasn't been any melodrama (on his part) at all. True, his girlfriend has had her crazed moments (and she can't really act), but they are showing this athlete who was headed for the NFL just taking what's happening to him in a kind of numb state, reacting to very little. This week he started to get a bit more angry when his roommate at rehab pushed him, but that was also realistic because he had refused to try and use his hands the entire episode and only when the roommate made him lose his temper and throw a drink across the room did he realize he had a chance to really recover the use of his hands. I love that they're probably not going to have him miraculously walking again and that they show most of what's going on with him in his eyes. Beautifully done!
And I read that the really rough wheelchair sport, murder ball, is going to eventually be introduced. I love the idea of Jason continuing on playing rough sports and being part of a team.
Yes, there's a lot of football and a lot of Texas, but this show is much better than I thought it was, judging by the Pilot.

At first, I thought it would be too teeny-bopperish given the characters' ages, but that hasn't been an issue. I caught the 2nd episode by chance and enjoyed it so much that I added it to my Tivo season pass. I haven't watched last night's episode yet, but I'm glad it's recorded.

I'm so glad someone else over here likes this show! For me that was a slow process, but it has been growing on me week by week and now I can't imagine what made me not like it at first. I even got my husband into it. It's always fun to have another show to watch with him. He's a dear, but he won't really watch Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars with me. He will watch Desperate Housewives, for some reason. Oh well. It's nice to have a Tuesday night show to watch with him. It unfolds slowly, but it gives a good hard look at the people of this town. I doubt if I'll ever understand their football obsession, but luckily that's not the point (despite all appearances).

I liked Kyle Chandler in Early Edition, so that should make it interesting.

Am I the only one here who watches Battlestar Galactica? In this week's episode, people are mysteriously disappearing. It turns out the president has set up secret tribunals to conduct "trials" and execute those suspected of collaborating with the Cylons during the occupation. The suspects don't get to challenge the "evidence" against them and of course, they don't get lawyers. There's one little problem: they almost execute the guy who was acting as a double agent during the occupation and providing vital information to the resistance. Editorial comment: Secret tribunals with no right to a lawyer -- sounds familiar.

:-[Tonight they are showing Friday Night Lights in the Studio 60 time slot. From what I've read, this is to be a one night thing and they are only replacing a Studio 60 repeat, but...if FNL does well there, I can see it happening again.
I really enjoyed last week's S60--probably because there were no skits from the show involved--but the ratings have been tanking. Apparently, NBC has put a lot into both S60 and FNL but since they are both hurting for ratings at this point, they might sacrifice one in order to save the other. I think they're a bit more invested in FNL and they also own that show while S60 is owned by Universal. I'm interested to see how this all plays out. I will be sad if either one of them is canceled, but at this point--I hate to say this, but--I'm rooting for FNL. That show really grabs me.
Modified to add:
I've been reading reports that S60 is already as good as canceled. NBC has ordered three more scripts as a contractual thing, but they may not be made into episodes. Apparently the cast has been telling people close to them that the show isn't going to make it.

My husband made me watch What About Brian with him last night so I didn't get to catch the new FNL...but I cheated and watched it just now online and it was a pretty good episode. I imagine it might seem a bit tough to get into if you've never seen one before, but it's definitely not impossible. All of the episodes are available here if anyone is interested.

I read in today's paper that Vanished has been told to wrap things up in 6 more episodes.
[song] Another one bites the dust! And another one's gone, and another one's gone, another bites the dust! [/song]
Also, I'll put it here since there's no thread: Vision TV here in Canada has bought Everwood and will be showing it four nights a week in prime time, from the beginning. This is a station I don't receive, not having cable, but I'm happy nonetheless. It's such a wonderful series that I'm glad some new people will discover it and love it, I'm sure.

Did anyone catch 3 lbs? I missed it. Any good? It sounded good. Sorry. Didn't catch it. I heard it was sort of House-ish but not as good and I figured no one could compete with the original so I didn't bother. If you catch it, let us know how you liked it. I want to say, while I'm here, that last night's Bones was amazing! That's a show that has really grown on me and last night...I think I cried at least three times and it was just so so good. I'm loving all those characters.

What? 3 lbs has already been on? I was looking forward to that because of Stanley Tucci, but all I've seen is promos. Hmm. Must have been watching Law & Order. Am I the one one here who has developed a serious Shark addiction? Oh, not all the cast is wonderful -- some were definitely picked for the eye candy factor and "act" like it's their first job -- but James Woods has never turned in a bad performance in his life. That man knows how to make a line work, and the interplay with the girl who plays his daughter (she looks like a slender young Judy Garland) is lovely. I have bailed on ER after thirteen years for this one, folks. Give it a try.
