Ah, the new fall season is upon us--none too soon after a seemingly endless summer of reruns. Have most shows reduced the number of episodes they air? They must since I know I have seen some more than twice. Anyway, what are you looking forward to watching? The new shows, not the old favorites. I did notice that the show about the immortal cop (I think its name is Amsterdam-I remember seeing one commercial) has been relegated to a mid-season replacement.
Me-- I want to see what they do with Moonlight, the vampire cop(a rip-off of Forever Knight? )and Chuck which reminds me of Max Headroom. Some of the others, I just don't know. Demons, anyone?

OMG!
Max Headroom - now there's one for a tragic 80s victim such as myself!!
If anyone wants a laugh, YouTube Summer Heights High, new comedy here - some if it's really Oz-centric but if you've ever been a student, a teacher or a parent or indeed a member of the community who has been anywhere near a High School, it is hilarious.
Here the programming seems to be release it in September so that it's ready for the xmas boxed set. Highly irritating.
Cheers

Journeyman. Or....is it Quantum Leap? The description sures sounds alike. Bouncing around in the past. Later, Carl I'm looking forward to this show. Everything I've read seems promising and I LOVED Quantum Leap and wouldn't mind a new one. I hear this one is a little less campy and formulaic than QL was and that this guy's friends react realistically to what he's experiencing. Monday nights will be fun, with this and Heroes and...what was that show at 8? I think I was planning to watch it...oh yeah! Chuck. I think I'll check that out as well. But I'll have to tape it because we'll be watching Prison Break. I thought the premiere was very interesting. Different. I like the idea of Michael having to band together with three of his worst enemies in order to escape with that Whistler guy. Good times. I watched the new Kelsey Grammar sitcom, After You, last night. It was pretty darn amusing, if you like that kind of thing. It has a laugh track and is kind of old school, but the writing is witty and it's a fun diversion. I also watched Kitchen Nightmares, which I've been looking forward to. My husband and I get a kick out of Gordon Ramsey yelling at people in his adorable British accent, having every other word bleeped out, and then ending up somehow calling them all donkeys. The delight never ends. He's a little nicer to the people in Kitchen Nightmares than he is in Hell's Kitchen because he's actually there to help them get their businesses back shape, but he is really fun to watch because, all the ass-hattery aside, he's actually a pretty cool guy.

I saw Back to You last night too, and it was pretty good. I was amazed at the amount of plot introduced in the very first episode! It will be interesting to see how the father plotline plays out. Saw Gossip Girls the other night-- . Boy, am I ever old. 'Nuff said. The show I am most looking forward to is a Canadian one, called Heartland. It will premiere later in October. It will be an hour long drama, set on a horse ranch in Alberta. Family drama, western--my favorite things!

I forgot to add Life which will be on Wednesday. It seems that unlike Dunbar, he gets his job back and the money. Reno Wilson aka Tom is in uniform in this show--at least in the one commercial I saw. They seem to be recycling/revamping several shows. How about Bionic Woman--updated and darker. Wonder why they didn't give the 6 Million Dollar Man an upgrade instead? I watched the first ep of K-ville. It was ok but nothing to right home about. Turns out his new partner is also an ex-con. Is this going to be the new trend for cop shows this season Either that or they possess some secret ability; ie vampire or immortal due to curse or whatever. And I saw a blurb on Rotten Tomatoes under RE that said Demons was a "made-for-tv movie". Maybe it will be on yet!

So what's Bionic Woman like? It's about to start here, you know that billboard, side of the bus feeling?
I reckon they gave it a second life and ditched the 6 Million Dollar Man cos of 'girl power' marketing statistics!
I strongly predict my 6 yr old girl et al will be a) glued to it and b) being her (ie the Bionic Woman) all over the backyard (pathetic courtyard in our case), at the park, at the beach, at the pool, in the playground at school and anywhere else they go just like my sister and I used to. We used to have some rippers of fights over who would be Jaime.

So what's Bionic Woman like? It's about to start here, you know that billboard, side of the bus feeling? Matilda It hasn't aired yet but the commercials are interesting. Seems the gal who was Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica is the Bionic Woman's nemesis. Early bionics gone bad? And I wonder how they will replace the nnngggg sound--remember when they used to run, jump etc.? (hard to duplicate that sound with letters but I think you all know what I am referring to!)

Did anyone catch the pilot of Life last evening?
Reno Wilson slipped status wise, going from detective to street cop. I couldn't help laughing when he saw the severed finger Crews dug up. It was pure Tom Selway!
A fun thing were the ongoing tv interviews that popped up randomly, showing people's reactions to Crews being back on the job. These included his exwife and former partner.
Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis) went from street cop to detective as part of his settlement (I know they have to take tests so whats with that? ) He is definitely quirky--blurts out whatever is on his mind, is a follower of zen, a lover of all kinds of fresh fruit (if I remember correctly he ate grapes, pears, melon, mango and oranges), and doesn't understand a lot of today's technology (cell phones etc.). His supporters are his lawyer and his financial adviser (a fellow ex-convict) played by Adam Arkin.
I couldn't help being reminded of BJ as I watched the show for some reason--a cop returning to the job after a traumatic event (BJ-blindness/Life-prison), the reactions of coworkers and the public toward his being on the job, others underestimating his abilities, the former partner who failed him, the female partner (in this case, the new partner has as much baggage as he does), his ability to connect/empathize with people when others can't...
Don't get me wrong, I did like it and I hope it finds an audience.

Did anyone catch the pilot of Life last evening? I did. Like you, I couldn't help but notice the comparisons with BJ. One big difference is that this guy did make a few mistakes, whereas Jim was an excellent cop. I thought it was OK, but not fantastic. What else have I seen since my last post? I love this time of year, watching all the series premieres. Journeyman--really good. Different from Quantum Leap in that the guy seems to jump into his own life, and it will be a continuing storyline. But I liked it. And a cute brother (a cop), whoa! Big Shots--Ok, kinda blah. Pretty lighthearted. Kyle XY--my fave so far. I love the kids commentary on us. And who is the guy following him around? Is he really an alien? Very interesting family dynamics. What a slutty girl teenager! Still waiting for the Canadian show Heartland in mid-October.

Journeyman was good but I wonder--if you change the past, the future as you know it doesn't exist. Fine for some people and not for others. If he really changes it and his fiance survives, his own life with his wife and child will be gone. Will it be hurt or helped by comparisons with Quantum Leap?
Tonight is Moonlight. Will I be plagued by comparisons to Forever Knight? ( a Canadian export I believe)
I had to tape the premieres of Chuck and Bionic Woman and haven't had a chance to watch them yet.

If he really changes it and his fiance survives, his own life with his wife and child will be gone. Will it be hurt or helped by comparisons with Quantum Leap? Of course you're right. I think that will be a big part of the show--at some point he will have to make a choice between the fiancee and his current marriage. (Talk about living in the past eh ) I recorded it last night, will watch it tonight. Another vampire one! This is getting terrible press but I'll give it a shot. Last Monday, I had to miss the premiere of Chuck because I was watching the season premiere of Corner Gas and recording Prison Break. This Monday, CG is on a break (after only one episode? What the bleep is going on!) so I'll watch or record the second episode of Chuck. Conflicts, conflicts. As an aside, I still urge anyone who gets Corner Gas in the States to tune in. It is so great! I'd love to know what anyone thinks! I forgot these shows, my micro reviews: Reaper--fun, but the people are too young and it's too silly to really grab my interest. Private Practice--ho hum. Guess if you like Gray's Anatomy or ER, you'll like this. Here in Canada, it's CBC's premiere week next week coming up-- Rick Mercer Report, This Hour has 22 Minutes, Royal Canadian Air Farce, and Little Mosque on the Prairie are all coming up. Plus a new one, The Tudors, about Henry the VIII, is getting great buzz (I think it's an import from the States or England though).

Isn't The Tudors the series that Barb! and others were raving about a few months ago?
In any case, that's about to start showing over here on the BBC. I'm certainly going to try to watch it.
Other than that, our television shows are usually out of sync with North America. A lot of the new fall shows turn up here during January or February. Nonetheless, the seasons will finish within a week or so of them finishing in North America, because we don't have as much pre-empting of things that you guys get. Fortunately.
I guess that's why I haven't heard of many of the things that have been mentioned in this thread. Still, I'm going to keep checking in; you guys are really good at giving me an idea as to what I should look out for!
