Don't blame the writers. This is about fair and appropriate compensation for their work, without which there would be nothing to cast, film, edit or air. I found this on Barbara Hall's (Demons. sob sob sob) blog which also gives us a look from the writer's perspective: So I'm taking a break and I'll be back whenever the craziness ends and I have something to report. Thanks for all your interest and participation. Hang in there and trust that we, the writers, wouldn't put ourselves and the industry through all this if something vitally important weren't at stake, not just for us, not even primarily for us, but for the generations to follow.
Talk to you again on the other side.Oh and I do not want to hijack this thread so let me say, I watched Moonlight for the first time last night and was impressed, but a bit confused as to who is who and what is what, and don't fully understand if these vampires are evil or not. But I promise Lori I will try to watch reruns (which i hope they will run) from the beginning. I know many are pulling for this to be renewed. I do feel for the position the writers are in, and hope that all parties involved will bargain in good faith, and make some progress on this matter and help end this soon.

Mary, there are a lot of us pulling for Moonlight to be renewed. But, until the writer's strike is finally settled, I don't know that there will be any word on a commitment from CBS. If the headline today is accurate, and the writers are going back to informal talks this week, I am ever hopeful that they will make some headway and this dispute will end in a win-win situation. Oh, by the way, Mary, the tall, dark-haired, good looking one - that's Mick; and the blond-haired, blue-eyed, pretty one - that's Beth. And that's where the story begins and ends!

Every time someone on this board says "stupid writers' strike," I -- as [ahem] a writer by trade -- want to grind my teeth. A more fitting phrase would be "stupid producers who think they can do without writers and refuse to negotiate." Don't blame the writers. This is about fair and appropriate compensation for their work, without which there would be nothing to cast, film, edit or air. Sorry for the rant . . . I feel better now. Rant away. You make an excellent point. But...I don't think people are blaming writers when they rant about the strike--at least I'm not. The entire industry is at a standstill because of the strike itself and I certainly don't blame the writers for doing what they did. I support them, but still feel the need to say "stupid writers' strike" from time to time because I miss them. I see that phrase as one that doesn't assign blame but that bemoans the loss of our favorite programing. We want our writers back and with a fair deal and we all know who's holding that up. Now back to Moonlight...I actually did find last night's to be the best so far. Apart from the completely superfluous voiceovers (which will always grate--sorry), the story was very well done. I love the background we were given on Coraline and the twist at the end was fabulous. I also like that the show made it look like it was going the cop-out route by allowing us to believe Josh had been cheating on Beth only to find that he was really going to propose. Even better was Beth's guilt because she was honest enough to admit she didn't know what her answer would have been. That went pretty deep and it impressed me. The actress who plays Beth is amazing. Mick is easy on the eye, but some of his acting doesn't wow me. His voice often lacks inflection (especially obvious during those endless voiceovers), but that may be because he's trying not to sound Australian all the time.

No one is placing blame on the writers - only on the fact that this whole strike could have and should have been over two months ago had all the players been willing to give (again I am not referring to the writers - with the most to lose, they really had no option.) They are holding out for what is justifiably theirs - it is their work and their craft and they have every right to be fairly compensated for it. But Shmeep is right - I miss them because everything revolves around them - no them, no programming. Now on to Moonlight...only one of the VOs last night seemed poorly placed ...the explanation of the siblings - had the writer's simply allowed the scene to play out, without benefit of those words, the viewing audience would certainly have figured out that particular angle of the relationship on their own. Hadn't Lance just referred to Coraline as sister? Sophia Myles (Beth) was incredible last night - the play of mixed emotions across her face as she wrestled with her guilt and then guilt again. I did appreciate that the rift between the two of them wasn't drawn out indefinitely...that she did turn back to Mick for comfort. While Alex O'Loughlin is, without a doubt, easy on the eye, he simply wears Mick St. John like he wears his Henleys - comfortably. I have found very little to be lacking in his portrayal of this wounded soul; and if they are going to rely on VOs, I appreciate the fact that he doesn't inflect any emotion into them as I think that would ultimately defeat their purpose. He has made Mick dark, but not too dark that we can't identify with him. I thought the way he played his emotion at the turn of events last night was quietly understated...and it didn't need to be anything more than that to be understood.

Last night's episode--wow!
Beth admitting that she didn't know what her answer would have been if Josh had had the chance to pop the question. Her feelings and her guilt seem to be tied up in the fact that she had been reconsidering their relationship. At least, she no longer seems to be blaming Mick.
The introduction of two new vampires, Lance ( that doesn't sound French does it?) and Cynthia and their relationship to Coralene. And where are the other brothers? There is so much that Mick does not know about his wife!
The "cure". Did I fall asleep somewhere and miss some vital clue? I could undertand Lance's anger at Coralene for marrying and turning Mick without his consent (vamp with a conscious or social snob?) but why is he so angry at Coralene for wanting to become human again?
I laughed out loud at Mick's aside that you can tell the age of a vampire by their...ahem..aroma. My first thought was that Josef would have been so offended!

"Part of what makes life so invigorating is it's finite nature. We are all mortal; our time is limited. It's part of what allows us to love and hurt, and in the end it inspires us to make the most of the time we are given."
The eulogy from Josh's funeral so aptly summed up what it was that Mick had been trying to explain all along, or why it was that he wouldn't do as Beth asked and turn Josh to save him. Turning him would not be saving a life, it would be taking one.
So, where do we go from here? Only the writers have the answer to that one....and I wish they'd come back so we have it too!

Perhaps with the end of the writer's strike finally in sight (notice, Maggie, I took out the reference to stupid even though that had nothing to do with the writers), perhaps we will soon know the fate of Moonlight and other affected freshman shows. It has been indicated that these new offerings may be placed on hiatus for the rest of this season and return for a second season this fall.....we dedicated fans of Moonlight can do nothing more at this point than keep our proverbial fingers crossed! (It will be so good to see the talented people who bring us our weekly vices back on the job again, and fairly compensated for what they do so well!) And if you haven't yet discovered its appeal, I offer a second Moonlight video, set to a beautiful lyric by an incredibly talented young singer/song writer named Gavin Mikhail. This is You Grieve, an original composition. You can check him out at www.gavinmikhail.com ...and the video, if you are at all interested, can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6drmZYPMyNI

Apparently so! It has now been confirmed by an inside studio source (we think we believe him!) on our Moonlight Board that the show will be back in production by mid-March with 3 - 4 new episodes to air this season! Woohoo!

CBS has finally made the official announcement (looks like our "studio guy" was right) - 4 new episodes for Moonlight to round out the first season. Mick St. John and company are scheduled to be back on the air on April 11th!
