Hmm.......I'm not certain that the grass is greener! You're probably right about that, the idea of having Royalty in a modern society is somewhat anacronistic. But I kind of like the idea of having a family to represent the country on official occasions, even if they cost a lot of money. It also represent our history, the Danish Royal family dates back more than a thousand years, I believe it's one of the oldest monarchies on the world, so I'll keep them around for that reason only And - hoping I'm not offending anyone - Your current President is not considered the smartest one of the bunch here in Denmark, and while some of the Queens relatives seem a little (a lot) inbred - that happens when cousins marry cousin through generations, and the used to do that within the European royal families a lot - our Queen and her family seems to be quite smart people. Besides, our politicians are quite average, so we're probably better off with the queen as our official representative, that way the politicians can concentrate on, well, politics, and she can concentrate on the non-political stuff. But the concept of royalty is a weird thing, and I'm just happy that our royal family isn't like the British, they are surely a crazy bunch of people

Hmm.......I'm not certain that the grass is greener! You're probably right about that, the idea of having Royalty in a modern society is somewhat anacronistic. Well, it certainly does lend to the history of any Nation; I find it rather interesting. My grandmother (Nana!) was a Brit - born and bred in Scotland and told me all about the Royal Family, woke me up at 4 a.m. to see Diana get married, etc.But I kind of like the idea of having a family to represent the country on official occasions, even if they cost a lot of money. It also represent our history, (hehe! I just said that!!)the Danish Royal family dates back more than a thousand years, I believe it's one of the oldest monarchies on the world, so I'll keep them around for that reason only I fear I will sound ignorant, and I humbly apologize, but I didn't realize Denmark had a Royal Family. Tell me about it - we could start another thread! And - hoping I'm not offending anyone - Your current President is not considered the smartest one of the bunch - Honey, that is an understatment and I assure you, no one here will get offended! He's as dumb as a box of rocks!!!! Unfortunately, he is, and has been, making a mockery of a Nation I very much love.here in Denmark, and while some of the Queens relatives seem a little (a lot) inbred - that happens when cousins marry cousin through generations, and the used to do that within the European royal families a lot - our Queen and her family seems to be quite smart people. I've heard of that! Keeps the $$$ in the family, too.Besides, our politicians are quite average, so we're probably better off with the queen as our official representative, that way the politicians can concentrate on, well, politics, and she can concentrate on the non-political stuff. So, it's like Great Britain, then? They have Parliament for the political end, etc.?But the concept of royalty is a weird thing, and I'm just happy that our royal family isn't like the British, they are surely a crazy bunch of people Oh, yea, just a little. I guess that's why "our forefathers" came here....LOL!!!!! (If Nana heard me, she'd pinch me!!!!) It's so great to have other people on the board from other parts of the world and learn their cultures!!! It adds so very much, doesn't it??

It certainly does! I like to learn about other cultures like that and to share my own. Don't worry about it But yes, we have been a Monarchy since about the year 900 and our Queen can trace her family back to the first King Gorm the Old, though not in a straight line, there has been a few de-tours along the line. We have a Queen who's married to a French guy and they have two sons, the Crown Prince is married to an Australian and his younger brother was married to an English/Chinese girl from Hong Kong, but they are divorced. A very international family indeed!! And the Queens sister is the former Queen of Greece!!! Modified to add: And her sister-in-law is the Queen of Spain!!!! Yup, The Queen signs the laws, but other than that, she is non-political and has mostly a representative role. We have a parliament and a Prime Minister to handle all the political stuff

I didn't realize Denmark had a Royal Family. Tell me about it - we could start another thread! Great idea!!! But I'm not sure where to start a new thread and what the topic should be?? I mean a thread about the Danish Royal family would get boring pretty fast, I think But maybe some cultural exchange thread since we have people of, what, four? different nationalities here??? Any ideas, anyone??? And, Bebe, I don't know if you saw this I am in no way trying to strip you off your title as "Queen of Spain" - I am sure you earned it and you absolutely deserve it, I'm just saying.....
