Maybe some of you saw this young man on the Ellen show. Ben Underwood is my new hero. [ftp]http://www.infectiousvideos.com/index.php?p=showvid&sid=2462&o=0&idx=1&sb=daily&a=playvid&r= Ben_Underwood_-_the_blind_kid_with_sonar[/ftp] That is so cool! I've heard of echo location before but never seen anyone who could do it so well.

I've heard of echo location before but never seen anyone who could do it so well. That is pretty amazing. But watching it, I'm surprised he doesn't seem to use a cane or a dog AT ALL. You'd think there would be some things that echo location couldn't help with. For example, really small objects he could trip over, like sticks. Also, things that aren't objects, but are potentially dangerous, like potholes.

I found this article mentioned on a List Serv I belong too. It is about whether the ADA applies to the internet. A blind student brought a suit against Target for not having an accessible website. The link to the article is: practice.findlaw.com/cyberlaw-100306.html

I got that through my Yahoo account. I think that its great that they can continue with their career if they choose and when they think they still have something to offer. Too bad that he can't advance because of his disability and will likely retire in a couple of years. Made me think of a certain tv show that they said was too far fetched to be believable

CBC's newscast "The National" had a special story on blind golfers last night. I watched it, and today discovered they archive the newscast (until the next one) on the Web. So to see this, you will need to do it today. Go to the link below and click on "Watch the National Online". The story comes on at about 30 minutes into the newscast (move the button thing at the bottom over to that time), and lasts for about 20 minutes. It's quite an interesting feature story. www.cbc.ca/national/

Oh, sure, I remember that back in 2001. Cutest little thing, isn't she? Apparently, they have a longer life span than dogs, excellent memory, peripheral vision. I think it's awesome!!

Well, hell's bells, it's about time!!!! Absolutely! According to the judge, all of the other countries that issue paper currency (more than 180 countries) include some feature in their currency to help the visually impaired. And the U.S. Treasury claims they can't do it? I predict the government will spend years fighting and appealing the ruling instead of finding a way to comply. Another example of our tax dollars at work. In the meantime, the only people who will be happy are the makers of the gadgets that "read" the denominations of the bills.

Since the US Treasury is based in Washington DC (the most blind-unfriendly city in the whole US; Not that I haven't been too vocal about that blind-unfriendly town).
Yes, it is probably true, they will fight it with all they can.
Of course, they might say they complied with the court order prior to it being ordered to braille the money, by saying the Alabama State Quarter has placed the US Treasury in compliance because it has Braille.
Later, Carl
