For me the feet grew first. I was wearing size 8 in the third grade and I'm only a 9 1/2 now so that's pretty freakish. My brothers told me I would never need skis. Then I shot up to 5'7" when I was thirteen and never grew (upward) again. The rest of the developing? Um...it didn't really keep pace. Let's just say that my brothers called me "Crater Chest" for quite a few years. I was thrilled when I just broke even at about thirteen. I did eventually catch up in that department, but not to any excessive degree.
What I learned growing up: Having brothers is a great way to keep humble.

- I rarely have to use a step ladder or foot stool to get things down out of cabinets or shelves
That's what I forgot to include in my post. The only time it gets annoying is having to get the step ladder to get things that are out of reach. I've gotten very good at scaling the kitchen cabinets to avoid pulling out the step stool.

I have worn a size nine since I was in third grade. The only problem, the rest of me never caught up - upward or outward. I am only 5'5" tall and I am still waiting to begin developing. On the verge of my 41st birthday after having nursed three kids, I am about to give up on it.

I'm 5' 10", and the worst part is my feet. I always had huge feet. I'm now size 11 1/2, which means 12, and most women's shoes stop at size 10! I have a terrible time finding shoes. I'd give anything to be size 10.

What an interesting thread! I think kenina has a very good point when she points out the difference between correlation and causation. If there were a cause and effect connection between height and intelligence, then logically the shorter people would be more intelligent. They would need to use their brains to get by, while their taller counterparts could rely on their greater physical size and strength. So even if there is a correlation -- you'd really have to examine the study and its methodology closely to see if its conclusions hold up -- I suspect it comes from external cultural factors. I'm not an advocate for either the "short" or the "tall" side in this discussion, being -- at 5'4" -- boringly "average" (in height).
