Just spent a day in NY and saw Jersey Boys. If you are looking for a fun play in NY do try to see it. The story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. It is great fun, great music, (they don't write songs like that anymore) and fantastic acting. I thought about you Anita, since when we arrived there was a sign that said, the lead who played Frankie Valli, John Lloyd Young, would be played by the understudy, Dominic Nolfi. Well not knowing how great Mr. Young would have been, I do have to say, that the understudy was fantastic. But I could not help but laugh at how we pushed you through the doors to quell our fears that Ron might not be there on March 11th. And out you came with that big smile to say that yes, "the whole cast, and even what's his name would be there" (Imagine the doorman still did not know his name.) I wondered if there was a group of woman in yesterday's audiance who had travelled there to see their heartthrob and found out he would not be performing. I did feel badly for them as I knew they would be crying through the whole show. Anyway, looking for a good time, see Jersey Boys.

Sounds like fun. Good thing I don't live closer or I'd be going all the time. I really enjoy it. I'm so glad you got to go and see another good play.
I think of that little escapade often. It was pretty funny.

I loved your story about the stand-in. Thank goodness that didn't happen to us! I will never forget our concern that first time and making Anita "volunteer" to ask the doorman about the cast on March 11! Anita - you were such a good sport! And yes, the three of us would have been crying that day had Ron's understudy taken the stage!

I'd have DIED if that happened to me, then again, I did see it, what, FOUR times, not to mention seeing him on the street in passing!!!!!
I really wish I'd have gotten to see you in the evening, Mary; I miss you guys and I can't help but crack a smile when I think of us in Brooklyn at the site of where Jim and Christie were by the bridge ("I'm not making out with you Mary so get that idea out of your head!") - LOL!!! And, of course, the night we had with Ron when I met you guys at the stage door - what a hoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So memorable that night was, and what would have made it totally perfect is if LL were there with us!
We must do it again and SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the Broadway production of Mamma Mia yesterday for the second time. I first saw it in March with rducasey. We both had a great time and as soon as I left my seat on that day, I knew I wanted to see it again with my daughter. Happily that happened yesterday. The movie version is currently set for release in July, 2008, and stars Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pearce Brosnan, and Christine Baranski. Althought the Broadway cast do not have the name recognition(at least to me!); they are terrific and look as though they are absolutely having a great time on stage! If any of you have not already seen it, I urge you to do so. Don't wait for the movie. There is nothing like a live performance. For those who are not in close enough proximity to NY to see it on Broadway, it does have a touring company, and venues throughout Europe, and I would think Australia as well. Go see it if you possibly can!!! (We did do the stage door, and that gave me an opportunity to get some practice with my new camera.) Carolee Carmello (Donna) Gina Farrall (Rosie) Pearce Bunting (Bill Austin)

That is so cool! I think I mentioned before that my friend Mary Mossberg has been with the traveling Broadway production of Mama Mia since last December, playing the understudy to Donna. I know she has gone on as Donna several times because I found a picture of her as Donna online--and a review of her performance. It was so exciting. I wish I could see her in it--or even see it without her in it. Her run ends in October so I'll ask her all about it when I see her on Thanksgiving. She and I always meet up at the home of another California transplant in New Jersey and have Thanksgiving together (along with my husband, of course, and yet another California transplant).

Great closeups again Kathy. You are quite remarkable with a camera, and that seems like a particularly good one. Keep that handy in case a certain blonde dude appears on Broadway again. I'm so glad you and your daughter were able to see it together. It is just such a fun show.

Glad you had a good time, Kathy; too bad our plans to meet fell through. Shmeep, I simply can't understand why you couldn't see your friend in Mama Mia - it's a simple train ride away and it's been on Broadway for quite a while. Hope you can see it, it's well worth it; in fact, all of the shows I've seen over the years are worth it!!!

She's in the traveling Broadway production, not the one that's actually a train ride away. Of course I would have seen her had she been performing in NYC! Unfortunately, she was in Oklahoma and South Carolina and wherever else they went. I kept hoping they would be in the DC area, but apparently they had already been there before she joined the tour. Oh well.
