My sister is doing a project / presentation on Australia for her 10th grade World History class. She needs to use a visual aid and would like to make some sort of traditional food to share with her classmates.
Does anyone know of some good recipies?
It needs to be something that would not be too difficult to make, transport to school and serve to aproxomately 30 students.
We would greatly appriciate any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks

My first thought was lamingtons as well, but Anzac biscuits would also be good and are easy to make (don't cook them too long though, they are best when they are a bit chewy in the middle rather than hard and crunchy).

Thanks for the suggestions. I asked this on a MASH board I also belong to and Lemingtons and Anzac biscuits were the popular suggestiosn there as well. I'll have to see what my sister thinks of them. Does Anzac stand for something? I've seen it written in all caps, so I thought maybe it was an acronym.

Lucky you, I wish someone had made some for me, they are fantastic.
Damper would be great too.
I had a look at the details for damper on that aussieslang site - interesting historical perspective for me as I have Aboriginal background - had never considered that damper was related to soda bread and would have been transported with the poor Irish mob sent here (I always think it must have been soooo hot for them).
We have just always thought damper was a Black thing because of the cooking over open fire and it uses Mission ration-type ingredients (sugar, flour etc).
So there you go, yet another great thing the Irish have given to Australia!
We also cook a version of damper without butter sugar (or milk sometimes) and call them johnny cakes. Hot, they're the best!
