Poor Jim! To have Christie's family background sprung on him like that. You do a beautiful job showing us the progression this couple has to go through to make it to to the point at which we get to know them. I love that you don't make the pre-blindness Jim all that different from the one we saw. He has many of the same hang-ups and he's not always the easiest person to get along with. Your writing style and your gorgeous descriptions get better with each chapter.

I agree with Shmeep. Who wouldn't feel insecure after information like that? I feel for both of them though. I understand Christie's reluctance to tell Jim about her background given his insecurities and feelings about his own past.
At the same time, too bad Jim can't realize that it's not where you've been, it's what you've made of yourself and how you rise above the circumstances you're dealt. For that, Christie's parents should be proud of the man their daughter is marrying.

I second shmeep's and bjobsessed's comments. I just want to add that you've captured Jim and Christie so perfectly in this chapter -- right down to how they argue and what they argue about. Great work!
