I've posted my first attempt at fan fiction, "After Waking to Darkness" (originally titled "After the Awakening"), in the "Fan Fiction" section here. It's a series of "snapshots," from Christie's POV, of things that might have happened after Jim woke up in the hospital. It's inspired by hoosier's story, "Perchance to Dream," and begins immediately after the end of "Perchance to Dream." I really enjoyed this! For a first attempt it is truly impressive, in my humble opinion. And I hope you get enough positive feedback to keep going. I know when I first started writing fanfic it took a lot of courage to post that first time, and I was so emboldened by people telling me that they had enjoyed it and wanted more.
I think you've done an admirable job with the characterization, and as shmeep can tell you, I am a real stickler for that. I think you've given us a very realistic picture of how Jim might've reacted - and how Christie might have as well. I'm especially glad that you've portrayed Christie as I think we saw her in the show - conflicted and sometimes angry, but generally a kind-hearted person with good intentions.

Posting the first one is always scary. I'm so glad you got up your courage and decided to share with us. It came out really good! I especially like your take on Terry's behavior and how he took advantage of Jim not immediately remembering what happened by trying to fill Jim's head with a false version of the event. Sounds like something he'd do.
Do post more the next time inspiration hits.

Good for you MLM - that was a great read and for the first attempt at fan fic, I am impressed with both your style and the detail woven into the story. I, like Shmeep, really enjoyed your interpretation of Terry's character, his attempt to hide the truth. And the "end of the marriage" sequence - wonderfully done and probably so true to how it would have happened had we been privy to it. Since you have treated us to Part One, and have the most nervy part out of the way, I hope we can look forward to Part Two - SOON!

I decided to re-title "After the Awakening" and change the title to "After Waking to Darkness." It's the same story, just a new title. I was not satisfied with the original title but couldn't come up with anything I liked better at the time I originally posted the story. Sorry if this causes any confusion. I told you I'm new at this fan fic stuff!  |
