Recently, my hard drive died. Yes, really. Curcuit by circuit, dust to dust, amen. I'll spare you the gory details, but in reloading my software, I took the advice of several co-workers and downloaded the Firefox browser. It is so fast!! I have cable, and it is lightning fast. So if you're game to try, go to www.firefox.com and follow the links to download the browser. It's very similar to Explorer, but f a s t e r. ;D

I think Firefox is WAY better than IE or Netscape. I've been using it for almost a year. Love it. The only time I go back to IE is if I think I MUST play a Yahoo game that only loads on IE (not very often).
RIP to your old hard drive.

I recently switched my web browser from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox, and I like Firefox a lot. It does seem faster, as doobrah said. Its pop-up blocker seems more effective than IE's, and it also has a nifty add-on which blocks most ads in web pages -- you know, those annoying ones that take longer to load than the page you want to view. The banner ads are gone from eBay and other sites, and I no longer have to wait for an annoying animated Botox ad to load when I want to check my e-mail on line. Give it a try! Did I mention it's free?

Just don't add the Skype addon - it makes pictures turn into error messages... Thanks for the heads-up. I don't "do" Skype (whatever that is), so that isn't an issue for me. I've only tried a few of the add-ons so far, and none of them has adversely affected my computer.

Most of the addons are excellent. That's the only one I've had a major issue with. One thing I particularly love is being able to pull down a list of different search engines depending on what I want - google or IMDB or eBay or Wikipedia or...I have a very nice personalise list . One addon I'd recommend is AdBlockPlus. Another good one is IE View which lets you open MSIE pages from Firefox Menus. I'd also go with Fast Video Downloader, which lets you download videos from a variety of flash sources (then all you need is a free FLV player to play said videos). Have fun with it all, anyway. I've been using Firefox for a couple of years now.

Thanks for the suggestions. "Ad Block Plus" was the first add-on I installed. It is such a relief to avoid those animated ads which take forever to load and sometimes even prevent the page from loading at all.
I have also downloaded a "theme" which gives me cats instead of the standard icons on the toolbar. Meow!

Has anyone else had a problem with the latest Firefox update? When my main computer did the automatic update today, I was no longer able to open any webpages in firefox although MSIE is working fine. I've stopped automatic updates on my laptop for now and have reported the problem, but I was wondering if it was just me.

I downloaded firefox onto my laptop last week because I couldn't run a paticular website in IE. THe firefox froze every time I tried to use it. So I don't think it's all that great, but maybe there is a problem with the recent version that is affecting us both.

I have Kaspersky internet security with the firewall turned off because I have a hardware firewall in my router - I had to turn on the firewall, allow inbound DNS in Kaspersky then turn the firewall off again - voila - Firefox is now fully functional once more. Very annoying issue, though.

I generally find it to be a good browser and it certainly lets in less menaces to my computer than MSIE. It also has some neat little addons that make life so much easier.

This is not related to Firefox although I recently downloaded it and love it much better than IE, but it is a computer question. I got my computer back tonight and it works great but the desktop icons on all on top of one another. I can't rearrange them either. I know it's just a setting but I've never done it. How do I fix it so I can arrange the icons the way I'd like?

Are you XP or Vista? This is for XP and may or may not work for vista.
Right click on your desk top, click "arrange icons by" and check to see if the icons are locked. If they are, unlock them and arrange them to your liking. You can probably do an auto arrange to separate them. Make sure "align to grid" and "show desktop items" are checked.

I have XP and it solved the problem. Now I can find my shortcuts.

I need some help. Harley did something to the computer. In firefox, I now have the tool bar at the top with the refresh button etc. hidden. It doesn't show up unless I put my mouse at the top the the screen. the start button and the clock etc. at the bottom has completely disappeared. It's not hidden and it's not there. How do I get it back to normal. I like to see it all.
