Help! Please! I'm sure someone's internet savvy here, right? Okay, they did something snarky to the computers here at work. When I come here to this forum and login, my name shows up at the bottom, like I'm here. But at the top, it still says, "Guest, please login." So I can't post or come to chat or anything! It makes me want to cry. Basically, the internet acknowledges that I exist, but the computer doesn't. Oh, whimper, whimper, whimper. --GB

I'd like to know too. I had the same problem at my sister's house.

One possibility is that you've signed on with one computer (the default is 6 hours) and didn't log out. If you log on from another computer before the auto logoff, then you're... well, in two places at one time and the forum thinks you shouldn't be.

Kyt This makes sense except...I never log out and I check the forum from three different computers and my Sidekick so I don't know if that's it. Sometimes my Sidekick still has me logged in and I can still log in from a computer. I have no explanation.

I've also been on two separate computers at once in the forum, so I know that it allows me double logins. And when I logged on (happened last Thursday after they tweaked the computers), it was my first time that day.
And it's not the anti-virus or the firewall, because I turned off the anti-virus to no avail, and the firewall wouldn't allow me access (if it was that) at a computer three terminals away.
Sigh. I just don't exist! And right now, the only computer that lets me on, it's not compatible with Word on the other two (don't ask me how that one happened), so I can't post the next chapter. Sigh. I'd planned to post tonight--might just end up on FF.net, then I'll have to wait until Saturday when I have a GOOD computer at my other job. (No internet at home.)
I wonder if the student computers will let me in? They don't have Word on the, of course, though. I'm surrounded by computers, yet I'm completely helpless! Aargh!
Thanks for the suggestions--keep them coming.

I'd suggest that there's also IP banning that can be done from the board admin, but don't think that's the issue here. So best suggestion is a workaround. Email your file to a reader who'll upload it for you. Or practice patience (never a favorite option, if you ask me) until Saturday. Good luck, Kyt

Gaaa! Shmeep, you're a genius! Big Miss Piggy kiss--mwaa! Okay, it worked. Dunno for how long. We'll see. Yay! This is so exciting! Proboards had a couple suggestions in their troubleshooting section. I'd been searching Google for suggestions, not even thinking of going to the main forum board--dunce! Oh well, water under the bridge. Here's what worked--dunno which one. I switched, under tools, internet options, security--switched the setting to low. It really didn't want me to, as I'm not an administrator here. Then, I hit "forever" on the log me in button, instead of six hours. Let's see, once I post this, if it kicks me out. Here's hoping! --GB

I'm so happy, I'm gonna cry!
I'm here and I'm not leaving! Although it is almost time for me to go home...

One suggestion about posting your next chapter...post at ff.net, and then you might be able to just cut and paste it from ff.net to this board without needing Word. Would that work?
