We have an unspoken rule over here at the board that has apparently been too unspoken so I'll speak it now. I know it's fun to pick apart episodes and to discuss the fan fiction, but we ask that you please keep these discussions separate. Not everyone enjoys reading fan fiction, so the moment that is introduced into a discussion of the show, a lot of people stop feeling the urge to participate in the discussion. It's a shame when people who have enjoyed the board up until now no longer wish to join in and I want to do whatever is necessary for everyone to have a place to express themselves. I think we need to be sensitive to the feelings of the people who want the show discussions kept pure. In all honesty, speaking as one of the fanfic writers, I am not a fan of allowing fan fiction to slip into the show discussions--even if the talk is about my story.
I think it's safe to say that anything goes in the fan fiction discussion threads (thats why they're there), but please keep the show discussion threads focussed on the show or you'll end up killing the conversation.
Nobody is to blame for not instinctively knowing this. We should have said something on the board a while ago. As it is now, the points brought up in the Pilot thread are very interesting in and of themselves and, minus the fanfic tie-in, could open up the discussion. I guess I'd say that if you wish to discuss those points in the context of the fic, do so in the fic thread, but if you want to open it up to everyone, bring it up in the appropriate episode thread without using the fic as an example.
