The US will mint a dollar to commemorate the Bicentennial of the birth of Louis Braille. It is to be 2009 and the word Braille will be written in Braille.
He was born in France in 1809.
Maybe instead of being a commemorative it will be the start to have Braille on all monies.
Later, Carl

I know Canada does it, and Japan has had tactile bills since the 80's. Why is the US so far behind in this? Doesn't make sense.

Not very observant am I? I guess it all depends what you're interested in at the time. You should let me know the next time you're coming home. Maybe we could meet. ;D

Man, I cannot believe that in this day and age, we have not done that already! But truoly I never thought of it eithyer. Even wacthing Jim check his notes it never occoured to me how much smarter it owuld be to just have braile notation. And I bet it would be very very simple to manufacture notes and mit coins that way. Is there a lobby group demanding it? Ashatan

We have heard our money called "monopoly" money. And for good reason. When I said monies, I meant U.S. After all the money we spent to redesign the U.S. money, a fraction could have been spent to add Braille. Braille in on the quarter honoring Alabama, because Helen Keller was born there. Maybe our money can catch up with the rest of the world. Later, Carl
