I'm fairly certain there have been others on this board who also watched "Due South", so...
On another thread, Dunbar's fumble with a phone (okay, I didn't see it as a fumble at all, but that's for that thread...) was brought up as indicative of his mental state. Thing is, I think Dunbar telegraphs in so many ways, that those tiny details are just supporting data, but not actively noteworthy when they happen (but it's great acting and characterization, no question). In other words, we already know Dunbar's stressing on something. His squad members know.
Constable Benton Fraser came to mind as the only character that I'm familiar with, who would potentially betray internal stress with a small fumble, with a lack of preciseness. He plays everything so close and smoothly, that yeah, I can see that type of detail carrying a lot of meaning when seen in Benny.
I'm not sure I'm remembering right, but that's surely the lasting-impression I have of Benny. It's been ages since I've seen the show, though. Now I want to order the dvd(s)....

HA Ha Ha -- I loved "Due South", and still have a thing for Paul Gross who played Benton Fraser. I have all the episodes on tape, and just about wore out "Victoria's Secret", the one with Melina Kanakaredes as his old girlfriend gone bad. But I havent' watched it in a long time -- I think it was from 1996. Yikes -- and it's just been put on DVD. Will we still be talking about BJ and waiting on DVD's nine years from now?
Anywa, It's in the 2-part episode of "Victoria's Secret" where Benton really seems to come apart as Victoria drives him crazy. I think he's also a lip-biter when he's stressed.
But the rest of the series, Benton is more of a do-gooder geek than a fumbler. As he always tried to do the right thing and be ever so polite, he "may" come across as a fumbler, but I never thought so. Just sweet. And earnest. And funny.
Trivia -- Apparently one of Marisol Nichols' first roles was in DS as a high school student at the school where Benton went undercover in drag. I haven't gone back to watch it but I should.
Another piece of trivia: Paul Gross and I share the same birthDATE, not just birthday, but year too. That still freaks me out.

Will we still be talking about BJ and waiting on DVD's nine years from now?. Let's hope not! I hope it will be out within a year.

Just imagine what might've happened if he hadn't been stopped from going to the dark side when Ray shot him. Oops. Now there was a friendship that had a hard spot in the road. I'm not recalling: did Benny get tongue-tied, or did he just stop talking when he was done? He sure wasn't easy to outmaneuver physically. Fast, strong, perfect timing, crack-shot, you name it. Oh yeah, and talks to the animals. Yeah. Superhero. Mortal, but superhuman. Geez, I gotta get me those dvds. (Hey, cool birthdate thing). Kyt

Not that I have the answer; but what was the name of Constable Fraser's dog? Later, Carl Actually Dief technically was a wolf. He became deaf when he jumped into frigid Canadian waters to save Fraser and his eardrums burst. (I just re-watched the pilot and it was part of the backstory )

I remembered today, Diefenbacker was deaf. Hence, the take-off with the name.
Imagine him replacing Hank.
Still man's best friend.
