Hello all I'm working on a new BJ fic and this one is going into chapters. My other ones were all one shots. This time I really need a beta reader to help me through the ins and outs of a BJ longer story. I usually write things from scratch, all my own ideas, and while this may seem harder than fanfic... it isn't. SO, I beg assistance. Thanks in advance

What is a beta reader? If I know, maybe I can help?

What is a beta reader? If I know, maybe I can help? --GB "Beta" is a fanfiction term that means someone who reads, critiques, gives feedback, and generally edits as needed another person's story, to try to make it the best it can be. Good betas are *hard* to come by, so if you do it, it's a great favor and can become a good friendship and partnership. I can tell you, confidentially (ha), that moms5thchild's fic is quite good -- if it's the one I'm thinking of, she's let me have a couple sneak peeks, though she knows by experience that I'm not much good at nor do I have much time for giving in-depth feedback. But I don't think anybody who betas for her will have too much work to do. (And I can't wait to read the rest of the story!)

In that case, maybe I actually could be of some assistance. Provided I get the whole icky computer thing taken care of--it still won't let me log in, so I'm borrowing a different computer, which I won't have access to often. I contacted our IT people, but who knows if they'll do anything about it--extraneous, unimportant things that don't pertain to work and all... But I would have computer access approx. 3 days a week between my two jobs.
Anyway, I have a degree in creative writing. We spent most of our time editing each other, so I'm pretty proficient. I would need to know how in-depth you'd want me to be--I can either just gloss over it like I do when I edit my med students' resumes, or I can pick apart every little tiny thing until it's Pulitzer material.
Lemme know.

Where did you go to school? My sister graduated from the College of St. Mary and my cousin graduated from Creighton. Or are you a Husker? Actually, none of the above. I went to UNO because that was one of about five or six schools in the country at the time that had Creative Writing as a fine arts degree instead of just a branch of English (really, who wants a BS degree?). I really like the fact that it was more writing based than literary critiquing based. One of my friends is a librarian at CSM, though. --GB

Green Being!!! I've read your stuff and would appreciate your help... one shots are one thing and chaptered stories in a tight format is another thing completely. Short I can do, long I can do... but the tight, concise format of fanfiction is a lesson I need to learn.
Also, Kenina, thanks for the compliment. You are a damn good writer too... I need people like yolu to kick my butt.
