Does anyone else read Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series? They are *fantastic*. The new one is called Eleven on Top, but if you want to read, you really should start with One For the Money, the first in the series. They are literally laugh-out-loud funny. The series is about a bond enforcement agent who got the job because her uncle runs a bail bonds business, and she's not very good at catching the bad guys. Her family is hysterical, and the two men in her life are both to die for. Like Ron Eldard sexy, except you have to imagine them in your head (sigh).
I HIGHLY recommend these books. You won't be disappointed. I also love the Spenser novels by Robert B. Parker, a 30-year-long series about a PI in Boston. Fantastic books as well.

I've 'read' several of these on audio books, and they are great. You're right about the men being sexy. Check your local library, they might have the books on cd.

Sorry, I don't think I own any of the Plum series, and I know I don't own One for the Money. You'll have to get them at the library. But I'll definitely bring you a Spenser novel to get you started with those.

I doubt if the one I have from Los Angeles will suffice here.

My father is a huge mystery fan, and loves the Spenser novels. Those and Agatha Christie. Now with another glowing recommendation I'm putting them on my list. I am currently reading "Peaceful Death, Joyful Rebirth - a Tibetan Buddhist Guidebook" by Tulku Thondup. I have "The Power of the Dog" by Don Winslow on deck. And "Slackjaw" (shmeep's recommendation) should arrive from Amazon any day now. I think I need to take a speed reading course! I wonder if it would be possible to start an on line book club. Instead of live chat we could have "book chat." Hey, you gotta dream big right?

I am a HUGE mystery fan -- some of the best writing around these days is in mysteries. My faves?
1. Janet Evanovich for sure -- LOVE that Stephanie Plum and the whole wacky cast of characters. Such great light reading, really laugh out loud.
2. NEVER miss a Robert B. Parker: Spenser, of course, and his new series with Sunny Randall and Jesse Stone are also terrific
3. Robert Crais writes a series set in LA. The hero's name is Elvis Cole, and the books are really smart and well written and satisfting.
4. The V. I. Warshawski mysteries by Sara Paretsky, some better than others.
5. P. D. James -- the BEST
That's all I can think of right now, although I also love all the classic authors like Dorothy L. Sayers, Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Ngaio Marsh, etc., etc.
