I know I'm posting all this in the "Nonfiction" thread, but oh, well. To make it right, I'll tell you what I'm reading now - The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Google it if you want to know what it's about - it's hard to explain. But my favorite advice columnist, Carolyn Hax, constantly recommends it, so I finally gave in and got it from the library. And it is super-interesting so far. Here's a link for Carolyn Hax if anyone is interested (you may have to register on washingtonpost.com if you haven't already) - www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/linkset/2005/03/24/LI2005032402809.htmlFirst, Tell Me About It is my very favorite column! I love the way Carolyn sets people straight, I almost always agree with her. Second, when I think of my heros, Gavin deBecker is definitely on the top of my list. I have read the Gift of Fear more than once, and I have lost track of the number of friends I have lent it to. That book is so eye-opening, it blows me away. Also, for anyone with children, Protecting the Gift is a must! Everything I have told my kids about staying safe I learned from Gavin. I get so angry when they have safety seminars at school telling them to do the exact WRONG thing. Last year a police officer came to my pre-schooler's class and told them that if they are lost to find a police officer. WRONG! I spent the entire ride home de-programming him. I'll get off my soapbox now. I'm right there with you on The Gift of Fear!
