ABC has done it again to Bochco. Good article -- thanks! Well . . . CinC is a pretty crappy show. Sort of a road company West Wing without the crisp writing. And Geena Davis is not the least bit believable, Golden Globe or not. I don't know anyone that watches it, now that House is back. CinC defintely hit me as a show that people watched a few times out of curiosity, then bailed. Nice to have confirmation, however -- as though we needed it -- that ABC put all their marketing muscle last season behind shows that didn't need it.

I have a friend who LOVES CiC. I gave it a shot for her sake, but just couldn't get into it. It just isn't all that compelling. I was hoping that a Bochco infusion might breathe some life into it, but I couldn't see how that could be possible, giving what he had to work with.
The concept of the show never appealed to me much in the first place, especially after I had read they were going to focus more on her family life than on her presidency. Why? Because she's a woman and a working mom so that's all we'll want to see from her, right? Also, I found her political affiliation (or lack thereof) very irritating. She's an Independent? How PC of the show to stick her squarely in the middle so she won't offend anyone! What's wrong with taking a stand? Many of my Republican friends adore The West Wing, Democrats and all. It has always made a point to present other sides of the argument and to show the conflict involved in trying to do what's best for the country while juggling sixty-million different opinions. I still think that show is often brilliant. But this? Who cares? I saw a preview this week in which the little daughter, looking oh-so-scared, says, "Mommy, I heard they had a nuclear bomb." Cut to Ms. President, looking like both a world leader, AND a mom. Gag. Had it been done better, I may have loved this show. As it is, not so much. Maybe if they killed off the daughters...

Okay, so now you know of two people who watch the show. Myself and a friend. I watched the last two episodes of the show, and found it to be very good. The plot was about a US sub being stranded inside the 12 mile limit, and the US needing China's help to rescue the crew. It was a credible story, and suspenseful, and I liked the fact that there was a bit of focus on what the burden of the presidency would place on a person's family. (I also think that was "Greg Hermanson" as the sub captain at the end.)
Have you even watched an entire episode since Bochco took it over? It sounds as if you only watched the previews, and I must say they did not give the show that much of a boost. Hmmm...sounds suspiciously like people who watch the previews to a certain cancelled show everyone here raves about, but said, without even watching the first show all the way through " That's a Daredevil ripoff...I'm not watching that" or "Blind cop with a gun? Feh".
That's how good shows die on the vine.
(Come on, shmeep, I know you are being snarky about the daughters, but that is just over the top.)
This is reminding me of how a bunch of agressive posters on the comics board grilled the DD movie and they never even bothered to see it. I can understand general gripes about a type of show, but to pick one out that you have never even seen and berate it to pieces? Just not nice.

I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression. When I said I "gave it a shot but couldn't get into it," I meant that I watched several episodes. I did not bash it based solely on previews (although the example of a preview I saw was from an episode I didn't see, so guilty as charged on that one). Most of the episodes I saw were from before Bochco took over and I thought it was just kind of blah. I saw one or two after he took over and it was better, but just didn't grip me. It's not that I think it's a horrible show, it's just not as good as it could have been so it will always disappoint me so I'm not bothering to watch--especially with "House" and "Scrubs" on in that timeslot. If there wasn't anything else on, I might just watch to have it on. As for the daughters, obviously I was--mostly--kidding. But I really don't like them. The older one is really whiny and the younger one just irks me. The son is okay. The husband is okay about half the time and I don't mind the grandma. Geena Davis is particularly wooden in this role. I know it's her character being dignified, as befitting her office, but who says a president can't have high wattage?
