I'm probably one of the few night owls around here, but tonight I was going to go to bed early, but for some reason (insomnia?) was still up when Craig Ferguson came on.
I love this guy. I didn't even watch Drew Carey enough to equate Craig with that show. He is just one funny guy, and I love his Scottish accent.
Tonight he did a wake for his father who passed away very recently. It was one of the most beautiful tributes I have ever heard. How he managed to get through his monologue without breaking down is beyond me, and he almost did lose it at one point when he recalled how his dad would sit behind him as they watched tv and would put his hand on Craig's head. Craig said that as he visited his dad in hospital, his dad reached over and did just that. It was a touching moment.
He also had an excellent band on called The Wicked Tinkers, who played a tune for his dad, and at the end, Craig himself joined in the music "to beat a drum for dad".
There was so much heart in this show that I just sat and wept...not in grief for someone's loss, but for the love a man showed for his father. Beautiful.
