I've been up since 4:45 a.m. (early morning soccer game!) so here's my first for today!
+ Lester for having the nerve to be honest with our hero and tell him he's a really bad chess player....he was right (Kasparov he's not!)
- I hate to do it to you, Vince, you're a nice guy and you try to do what's right, but please, raising a disrespectful child? And then not making him do the right thing? Tsk!Tsk!

Wow Lori. What time was the game? Games around here are played at night except on tournament days. (Once/summer) Our boys are playing Indoor right now - game time: 6:55 a.m! The team has to be on the field to warm up (or in this morning's case - wake up - half an hour before game time.) We've all decided they should play at this time more often - they scored 16 goals this morning and ran all over the other team! Once we get into our regular travel team schedule for the spring season and back outdoors again, games will be every Sunday afternoon. |

My second for a beautiful, snow-covered Sunday in Northern Virginia - a foot of the white stuff on the ground:
+ Don Yun for never allowing himself to get nasty or disrespectful with Jim and Karen, even though he didn't understand how they could be questioning him for such a hideous crime.
- Vince Postiglione for blaming everyone else but himself and his own family for the ruckus at the restaurant - Jim did not start it by standing up for the honor of his wife.

Vincent Postiglione. He never thought he'd live to see the day he had his own gravestone. He was right. Just yesterday he was alive and well. His son was getting married. The sun was shining brightly. The perfect day to go to the amusement park. He was still a little jittery after watching that poor beautician get shot to death by the little Eastman girls, so a trip to the amusement park was just what the doctor ordered. Dr. Galloway, that is. His next door neighbor. The man always had such good advice.
So Vince took the family. They rode the ferris wheel and looked at the world from on high. They ate cotton candy. They laughed. He held hands with his wife. The kids jumped and skipped.
Vince sighed. It looked like the Eastmans had had the same idea. There they were, across the fairgrounds, a whole gaggle of them. Vince watched them cautiously. A fair didn't seem to be the type of place the Eastmans would lower themselves to come to. But oh well, he'd just ignore them and have fun anyway.
"Oh, no! Daddy, what if he tells someone?" Little Miss Eastman shrieked when she noticed Vince. As her lawyer, she'd told her daddy everything about the accident that had happened while she was getting her nails done at a local beauty parlor. And even though her daddy had arranged an impervious alibi for the girls, she was still worried.
Mr. Eastman had been thinking along the same lines. He'd never trusted those low-class Postigliones. He'd had a few scotches--okay, so the snifter in his home office was now empty--and he'd come up with a plan. It was no accident that his family happened to show up at the amusement park at the same time as the Postigliones. Worried about his darling little daughters, he wanted to find out where Vincent stood. He never had been the type to hug and make up, like that cop had suggested. So he followed Vince and the family to the bumper cars and slipped behind the wheel.
The power came on before Vince had a chance to buckle his safety belt. He was barely even settled into the car. His back was to the rest of the arena when a car struck him from behind, at just the right angle to send him flying out of the car, over the railing, over the crowd. He landed, finally, in the parking lot, striking one car, then another, as if he himself were a bumper car, before he came to his final resting spot.
It would have been an unchargable accidental death, even if the driver of the other bumper car had not disappeared before anyone realized what had happened.
Lesson number one: Always wear your seatbelt, no matter what you're driving.
Lesson number two: Never drink and drive, no matter what you're driving.
Lesson number three: Never trust a lawyer.
