Please give the reasons for your answers:
1. What is the character's best trait?
2. What is the character's worst trait?
3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.)
4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series?
5. What did this character help Jim understand about himself?

1. What is the character's best trait? His fairness. Even though he had his own doubts initially, he kept an open mind and was quick to acknowledge Jim's strengths and to allow him to prove himself and he stood up for Jim when others doubted.
2. What is the character's worst trait? Hard to think of one. Um...I wasn't crazy about the way he yelled at his detectives when he was mad at them. I know they had it coming at times, but they are all adults in a professional workplace so he could have spoken with more respect. But that just shows how little I know about NYC cops, huh?
3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.) More about his life off the job. There isn't anything not job-related revealed about him other than his love of flowers and sandwiches.
4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series? Interact in a casual setting with the other characters while not in boss mode. I didn't see him at Walter Clark's racket. It might have been nice.
5. What did this character help Jim understand about himself? That there were people out there who would give him a chance (eventually). That it was possible to prove himself.

1. What is the character's best trait? He doesn't seem to pre-judge Jim.
2. What is the character's worst trait? It made me very angry when he told Jim he was on his own if the whole cologne thing in Rub a Tub Tub came back to haunt them.
3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.) When did he lose his hair?
4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series? Hmm, I don't feel like we got to know Fisk well enough to answer that question.
5. What did this character help Jim understand about himself? He helped Jim realize that blind or sighted he was the same old feisty police detective.

4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series?Interact in a casual setting with the other characters while not in boss mode. I didn't see him at Walter Clark's racket. It might have been nice. I probably dreamed this . . . altogether possible . . . but wasn't Fisk standing with Walter Clark at the beginning of the racket, when they showed that shot of the cartoon art and then the band? Or am I completely nuts? I'm sure there's someone out there who can post a screencap and set me straight.

No, Maggie, you are not completely nuts, at least not in this instance! This may not be the greatest screencap as they don't actually show his face. But, there is no mistaking that voice, or as the screencap suggests, that hairline! Lieutentant Gary Fisk was at Walter's Racket, drink in hand.

1. What is the character's best trait? He held Jim to the same standards as his other detectives.
2. What is the character's worst trait? I don't know if this is a trait, exactly, but I am critical of him for not educating himself about what a blind person can do and insisting his detectives do the same, before Jim came to work in his squad.
3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.) How and why was his squad chosen to be the squad where Jim was assigned? Was it because Fisk was the boss, or simply because there was a vacancy there?
4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series? Although we did see him briefly at Walter Clark's party, we really didn't see him out of his "boss" mode. I would have liked to see that, too.
5. What did this character help Jim understand about himself? By holding Jim to the same standards as his other detectives (see no. 1), Fisk allowed Jim to prove to both of them that he could still do his job.

1. What is the character's best trait? He was a good leader who let his people know that his door was always open. He knew how difficult the job was ("I too was once a detective.") and when a case stalled was often able to suggest a new line of thought. 2. What is the character's worst trait? This was a toughie...hmm, parking whenever and wherever the fancy took him? (thinking of the big mistake in trapping the IA guy!) 3. What do you most wish that you knew about this character? (This would be not something that was revealed in the series.)Did he have a secret yen to open a florist shop when he retired or did he just love flowers and/or gardening. Those fresh flowers in his office spoke of a hidden passion. 4. What would you have liked to see this character do just once in the series? Tell the chief of d's what he really thought. 5. What did this character help Jim understand about himself? That he could do the job. Jim was defensive about his abilities, with ready answers to every point Fisk brought up. Fisk, I think wisely, stepped back and let him find his feet and come to terms with a new partner without micromanaging his every move.
