It's week 8 of the re-watch, the week for "Past Imperfect": Jim's "man to man" talk with Nick, a troubled Army buddy, "Parents of the Year" nominees Letitia and Ty, spiders, snakes, and scorpions, the sand wedge, and having a drink with an old friend.

One thing that always bugged me was how did Ty and Letitia hook up in the first place? He seems the kind to flash his money and his social connections (deputy mayor on speed dial?). She was definitely out of her element. I don't think he wandered into Ericka's shop to pick up a little something for someone special and their eyes met over the cash register! Maybe a bar or night club...
Why was Jim surprised when Nick called and dumped Karen especially since Nick told him at the diner that he would "call it off"? I didn't feel that Jim was just "acting" surprised to cover up the fact that he already knew. And it seemed as if he was beginning to wonder why Nick chose to take the easy way out. If he had really changed, why he didn't come clean with Karen? He seemed to lose his train of thought when he was interrupted by Greg but would he have looked into Nick more or asked Walter to ask his friend what was going on at Vertigo?
I felt sorry for Jim what with Greg on the one hand and Karen on the other especially Greg's meltdown in the alley followed by Karen going ballistic in the break room. Funny to see him so flustered that he was literally speechless.
Hopefully Greg would finally be able to put the past behind him and move on. Maybe having Jim confide in him that he still saw him as he was, that learning that he had accidentally killed Ken had not changed how he remembered or thought of him.
One bugaboo is the woman who constantly walks back and forth during the scene in the alley! Did she forget something? Were they shorthanded that day for extras!

I think he was surprised that Nick dumped her on the phone. You really shouldn't dump someone by phone, e-mail, text, etc. You should have the courtesy to do it in person. I agree. I really love this episode. Still, I can't let this opportunity for snickering pass me by. It always make me laugh--of course he still sees him that way! He hasn't "seen" him since!

I didn't feel that Jim was just "acting" surprised to cover up the fact that he already knew. Very interesting. I always had the opposite impression: that Jim was pretending to be surprised -- and not doing a great job of it. Hopefully Greg would finally be able to put the past behind him and move on. Maybe having Jim confide in him that he still saw him as he was, that learning that he had accidentally killed Ken had not changed how he remembered or thought of him. I think that's exactly what Jim was trying to tell Greg, when he said he still saw Greg the same way. Karma for all your contributions to the re-watch discussion! "Past Imperfect" is probably my least favorite episode of Blind Justice, although one of my reasons is admittedly shallow. Jim just doesn't look his best in this episode, as shown in the screencap above, and in this scene: And is it just me, or is his hair a little too blond in this episode?

Ah...karma to you Martha for joining Kathy and I in the shallow end of the pool! I actually do like that scene in the break room with Jim opening and closing his mouth and shaking his head and at a loss for words. I often wonder if Ron actually missed a line here as there is a hint of a smile, but it worked and they "let it go." And as for the hair being too blond in this episode, that makes me yearn for the Dressing the Dunbars thread, and Christie secretly highlighting his hair with him not even being aware of it. Oh... shallow....so much easier than being deep.

Oh... shallow....so much easier than being deep. The water's just fine in the shallow end. ;D I like the scene in the locker room, especially the part where Jim, who usually has a snappy comeback, stands there speechless. I just don't like how Jim/Ron looks in the scene. I don't think Ron missed a line. I recall one of the promos for the episode showed a brief snippet which must have been from this scene, but wasn't in the episode. So I think part of the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.

Sheesshhh! ;D Thanks for the karma mlm. It has been fun watching again and seeing if I can come up with any new thoughts or notice anything I hadn't seen before!

One thing that strikes me about this episode is that everybody is lying!!! Nick lies to Karen - so does Jim Greg has been lying for all these years about what happened when Ken Middleton was killed and he doesn't tell his widow why he REALLY wanted to meet her. Which was probably for the best anyway, I think Jim was right when he said that telling Linda what really happened was a bad idea. Letetia's brother obviously lies about vandalizing the car. Letitia even accuses Tom and Marty of lying to her when they come to arrest her. And not to forget Ty Targent who lies to Letitia and the squad when he promises not to press charges against her. A lot of lying going around!! It kind of makes sense to me that Ty had been married to Letitia. I think they came from the same background. Then Ty somehow mamaged to climb the social laddder and dumped her in the process. Like you said Hoosier, she was definitely out of her element. The way Ty flashes his money and brags about his friendship with the Deputy Mayor makes me think that he had worked his way up and now he would do anything to keep his position - and keep his background a secret. [ And is it just me, or is his hair a little too blond in this episode? Too blond, maybe, but I still love this scene when he doesn't know what to say ;D Kudos to the lieutenant for the way he hadles Ty Largent and his annoying lawyer "Well, you and your client can leave now" "It'll get done sweetheart, just keep walking!" And also for having to beg Jim to go on with the case when he thinks it's a waste of time. "And as a courtesy to me, OK Jim?" - Chris
