I thought if anyone else is game that we could put some of the Christmas decoration pictures up of our home towns. In Denver, we have the city and county building that looks really pretty at Christmas. I thought you all might enjoy and I would love to see sights in your home town.

Wow, that is a really cool picture. Our town has a big light display that people come from all over to see. I'm going to go down probably when school gets out. I'll be sure to take my camera.

Inspired by your picture Lindy, and the fact that I am snowbound, I went browsing for some pictures of Christmas here. Newport in the Gilded Age of the 1800's became the "summer playground" of the very wealthy and they came here and built their "summer cottages", which were anything but cottages. The Vanderbilts, The Carnegies, the Duponts, and The VonBurans and Astors built huge mansions. Today many are owned and run by the Preservation society of Newport and many events are held in them and tours are given. This is the Great hall of Cornelius Vanderbilt's Breakers, and Mrs. Astor's Beechwood. Her husband John Jacob Astor went down on the Titanic. She survived on a lifeboat. A month long celebrations take place here called "Christmas in Newport" with many events from ice sculpture contests , choral groups, tree lightings etc.
