THE (OH, WHY NOT?) EPISODE-BASED SURVIVAL GAME: THE PILOT
This has been rolling around in my brain for a while — ever since we did the Fabulous Revivals poll and the general consensus was that y’all missed playing the Survival Game. I wanted to launch this back in March, for the anniversary of Blind Justice, but Life with a capital L got in the way. That bein’ said . . . here we are. Finally.
Could we, I wondered, play a quick “down ‘n dirty” version of the game for each episode? I think so. (Well, mlm and I do and we’ve pledged to play with each other if no one else does!) I also thought this might be fun for our newest member, Chickleta, who missed the Survival Game of old and needs a break from all that studying. And for us old-timers, it’s a sweetly nostalgic chance to channel our favorite moments.
I had to do some stepping to find the rules in Archives but I thought we all needed a refresher course. And how about a little karma for Shmeep, who not only co-founded this board but started the Survival Game madness back on November 23, 2005?
HERE’S THE TWIST: For this first game you can only reference The Pilot. (In other words, you can’t quote Terry in “Up on the Roof” or Marty in “Marlon’s Brando.”) Smaller cast, fewer folks to kill off (rducasey and katryna, sharpen your wits and your knives) and when we’re “done here,” it’s on to Episode Two. Is there enough material in each ep for a game? Who knows . . . but personally I can’t wait for “Up on the Roof” and the race to bump off Terry. And if we have to re-watch an ep to freshen our dialogue skills, well, worse things happen at sea. ;D
THE RULES:
All characters start with 15 points. You then cast either a (++) vote to give someone 2 points; or a (--) vote to take away 2 points. Last character standing wins and we know it’ll be Good Old Jimmy. Absolutely.
Before each member was only allowed to vote twice a day, but we’re a smaller crew now so I’m changing this: You can play as many times a day as you like but you cannot double post. Seems fair.
You vote for three characters at a time. When a character’s vote reaches 0, he or she is eliminated. The poster who votes someone “dead” gets to concoct and describe the method of death — which can be as painless or brutal, as speedy or horrendously drawn out, as the poster sees fit. When half the field is eliminated, characters will only be allowed to receive 1 plus vote while still receiving 2 minus votes: this is to ensure that the game doesn’t last forever.
Also, you can’t deduct multiple points from one person (i.e. you can’t subtract six points from Marty Russo even though it’s tempting). You have to add or subtract points from three different people with each turn.
Please post the new standings with each vote, in rank order, using Copy/Paste. Screencaps are always welcome.
Ladies (and Carl), start your engines.
THE EPISODE-BASED SURVIVAL GAME: THE PILOT
To streamline the game I’ve eliminated minor characters: the cop at the crime scene, the woman who stares at Jim on the subway, the pesky reporter from Channel One, Lynn Bodner’s roommate, and Lynn since she’s already dead. If there’s anyone I missed who needs to be included, please let me know.
Detective Jim Dunbar - 15
Christie Dunbar - 15
Detective Karen Bettancourt - 15
Detective Tom Selway - 15
Detective Marty Russo - 15
Lieutenant Gary Fisk – 15
Terry Jansen – 15
Ms. Chenowith - 15
Randy Lyman - 15
Hank - 15
MODIFIED TO ADD:
I'll start.
Detective Jim Dunbar (++) Because he's the coolest. Ever.
Detective Tom Selway (++) For walking over to Jim with his hand out. Good on ya, Tom.
Lieutenant Gary Fisk (--) "If you remember . . . " If you
remember? Like blindness causes amnesia? Tacky and mean-spirited, Gary.
AND SO WE HAVE:
Detective Jim Dunbar - 17

Lieutenant Gary Fisk – 13
