Brooding, Detective Terry Jansen slumped behind the wheel of the car as he waited for his new partner to get back from the coffee shop. Why couldn't Jim understand that it would have been suicide for him to have left cover that day of the bank robbery? Not everyone is cut out to be a hero but hadn't he proven he was a good partner, a good detective? Being reassigned had seemed the answer; a fresh start. But then there had been that incident on the fire escape and well, now he had yet another partner. Someone steady, a better fit, the boss had said. Terry closed his eyes with a sigh as Semple eased his way into the car and extended the pastry box in his direction. "Bearclaw" Glenn offered as he took a slurp of coffee.

Detective Jim Dunbar +++ For navigating the New York City subway system . . . not that easy for the sighted, for crying out loud.  Detective Karen Bettancourt +++ For passing out on Lyman's kitchen floor and leaving the field clear for Jimmy Dee.  Detective Marty Russo +++ For basically "blowing" the initial interrogation of Lyman, thus paving the way for Dunbar & Bettancourt.
