Greenbeing's thread on cooking reminded me of this. Given the number who said they hate cooking, I'm guessing there are a lot of us who like dining out! (note dining and not mere eating--I was thinking more in terms of restaurants that aren't fast food or chains)
I thought it might be interesting to discuss our favorite types of food and dining experiences. I love dining out, but don't get to do it a lot for two reasons: the cost, and I'm single (these types of restaurants one doesn't usually eat alone in).
I am fortunate that I am in a dining group with colleagues. Each month, usually on the third Friday, we eat out at a different restaurant. We all take turns planning and choosing a restaurant. We get between 8-18 people out. It's great--good times, good food, good people. It's also a chance to try different foods--we often order appetizer platters or meals for more than one, and share. I planned tomorrow's gathering and we are going to a new Indonesian restaurant.
I am also fortunate to live in a big city with abundant dining choices! It's wonderful!
Some of my favorites are:
Indian Japanese Seafood
I have also become a huge fan of mango juice and coconut ice cream, from trying them in different restaurants.
I also used to live north of the Arctic Circle. I can recommend muskox, but not muskrat or muktuk. Those are some of the most unusual foods I have eaten.
So--good, bad, dining experiences anyone?

We first visited Thailand in 1999 for a conference. SInce then Thai restaurants have blossomed all Over Melbourne. I even learned howto cook Thai.
SO I guess that is my favourite. '

I'm so glad someone else enjoys eating out! (and that someone answered!) One of my favorite restaurants is a Thai one only abut 10 minutes from my place, very close.

I love eating out too! I like pretty much anything but am interested in trying new restaurants and new types of cuisine. Most Asian food is great, especially Indian, plus now there seems to be a trend for 'gourmet International/Australian' which seems to be food that is influenced by different cultures. Lovely. In fact, one of the most fun things about travelling is trying the local foods.

Chinese Italian and a good steak house.
And I do know of a couple of Italian Resaurants with excellent steaks. So I get a twofer with the Italian/Steakhouse.

I was also out for dinner last night and had Mediterranean tapas. One of the dishes was garlic prawns, sauteed in lemon and white wine. Delish!

I am not much on eating out. When at home, I don't see the point in spending money on food when you can make it cheaper at home! When out of town, I would say my favorite is Chinese--love those lo main noodles!

Having parents from the polar opposite coasts of Canada, I grew up loving seafood - lobster fresh off the boat in PEI and New Brunswick and fresh Pacific coast salmon grilled on the BarB in the back yard.
If you have the chance to visit one of Canada's most spectacular cities, Vancouver, and you love seafood, you should check out The Cannery - their prawns are to die for - unmatched by any I have had anywhere else! (To say nothing of the ambience of the place itself and the incredible view of the city across the water - stunning!)
These days though, I have a very soft spot for a hole in the wall Thai restaurant, a fabulous Chinese bistro and a Lebanese Taverna! Great multi-cultural dining. And none of them have a golden M in their name!
