What's with all these shows with "Justice" in the title? Blind Justice. Injustice. Now there's just Justice.
I caught it last night because it was on right after the season premiere of Bones (which I love, by the way). I didn't expect to be drawn in. I wasn't all that impressed with Vanished last week and I kind of expected this to be just as uninteresting, but...I was wrong.
This show is fast-paced and fun and has a great cast. Victor Garber, Spy-Daddy in Alias, is a wonderfully charismatic lead and the rest work well with him. Yes, it's just another law show, but it has a different feel to it. Also, the little gimmick for this show is that at the end of the trial, we, the audience, are treated to a glimpse of what really happened. The legal team itself isn't all that interested in finding the truth. They're more concerned about winning, both in the media and in court. They find whatever facts are needed to support their side, no matter how far-fetched they may seem. This week, for example, they got an expert witness to theorize that a woman who bumped her head twice before falling into a pool could have logically received the five skull lacerations that made it seem she had been murdered. They eventually convinced the jury and the woman's husband got off. The twist? I was waiting the entire episode to be shown what actually happened and I was sure the husband had somehow done it. I was surprised to see that the woman actually fell and hit her head, got up dizzily, fell and hit her head again, and ended up face down in the pool. Exactly what the defense thought happened (although I'm not sure that they actually believed it).
I'm sure mlm could pick apart the legal aspect of a show like this. I don't exactly look for realism from the people who brought us CSI:Miami. But...I don't care. This show is fun AND inuvik will be pleased to know it's not serialized.
