Eric Stoltz as a blind minister who solves mysteries. Soundtrack would be new, composed-for-the-series REM tunes. The parish library and librarian would be key to solving many of the mysteries. Ron Eldard can be the sighted (for once!) police liaison. Sandra Bullock can be the parish secretary, Eric's helpmate and friend.

I think I've got all my faves with this one here--kinda like "Father Dowling" with blindness.

I don't have a formula per se but how about a show that actually caters to an intelligent audience, has an interesting storyline and the characters don't shed their clothes at the drop of a hat? Plus the network decides to give it a decent chance before yanking it off the air?
