Corner Gas now has a better distribution deal with the States. This is from the Corner Gas website: CORNER GAS GOES INTERNATIONAL!
CORNER GAS has secured a US distribution deal with American cable network Superstation WGN. The series will be available in nearly 70 Million homes beginning in 2007. CTV also announced that CORNER GAS has now been licensed to broadcasters serving 26 countries across 5 continents in all - countries including Australia, Iraq, Finland, Morocco and more.
"I'm very excited about both the international and the US deals" said CORNER GAS creator/star/director/writer and executive producer Brent Butt, "We get so much American programming up here in Canada, it's nice to be able to give a little something back. Something besides Celine Dion I mean." If I have perked anyone's interest about this fabulous show, I just discovered you can watch episodes online. www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/show/CTVShows/1073346753470_68753710/Click on Watch It Now! on the right hand side of the page.

Our Prime Minister was on the season finale last night. How cool is that? He made a flip-flop and then blamed the Liberals (he is a Conservative). This is not a talk show or anything, it's a scripted comedy.
Our politicians are often doing things like this, they have a good sense of humour.

Well, that's very cool. I love Corner Gas, even though some of the local canuck jokes go whoosh!

Well, that's very cool. I love Corner Gas, even though some of the local canuck jokes go whoosh! Wow! I didn't know it was in Australia too! I'm glad it's got so many fans. I agree, that's one of the potential downfalls of the show, the canuck jokes. It's one of the reasons we love it so much, but it does limit the appeal of some episodes. Do you know what season you are watching? Wait till you get to the end of season 4, when our Prime Minister does a guest spot. What a great sport he was to do that. One of my favorite aspects of the show is that there is no sex/dating/relationship stuff happening among all the single people. They are happy to be single and just living their lives! Who's your fave? I love the two cops the best. They are so funny!

I bought Season 1 when it popped up on EzyDVD having tested out a couple of eps on YouTube and intend to follow up with subsequent seasons as and when I can afford it. I believe SBS have been showing it, but since I don't have very good reception for SBS, I haven't bothered to follow up on that - I've made life easy on myself by only watching one free-to-air channel these days just coz it has all my regular shows, lol. Don't really have a favourite character, just enjoy the whole concept of the town's collective insanity.

The creator of Corner Gas has pulled the plug, saying he wants to go out on a high note. Next season will be the last. The network wants it to continue. My mother will be devastated, it's her favourite show. And I really like it too! From the release: Originally developed by Butt for The Comedy Network and CTV, Corner Gas went into production in the summer of 2003. After an innovative publicity and promotional campaign, including a free-gas giveaway that brought traffic to a halt on the streets of Toronto, Corner Gas premiered on Jan. 22, 2004 with 1.15 million viewers. The series went on to become a cultural phenomenon, spawning a chart-topping book, sold-out comedy tours, a successful line of clothing and merchandise, a top-selling series of DVDs and a thriving tourist industry in Rouleau, Saskatchewan, where the series is filmed.
By the time the series concludes next year, 107 episodes of the half-hour series will have aired. Corner Gas has been nominated almost 60 times for numerous awards, including an International Emmy Award, Gemini Awards, Leo Awards, Director’s Guild of Canada Awards, Canadian Screenwriting Awards and Canadian Comedy Awards. The series has won six Gemini Awards, including “Best Comedy Series.” The program is seen in more than two dozen countries, including Australia on SBS and in the United States on Superstation WGN.
Since its premiere five seasons ago, Corner Gas has remained Canada’s #1 comedy and the most-watched Canadian scripted series. Often the only Canadian series to make the list of the Top 20 most-watched programs in Canada, the inhabitants of Dog River regularly outdraw all of its US Network timeslot competitors - even in simulcast - in any given week, including Prison Break and Heroes.
