The first episode of Psych will be on tonight and I'm looking forward to it. Everything I've seen about it is hilarious so I really hope it can live up to the hype.
Here's a little something I found about it:
'Psych,' 10 p.m. USA
Shawn Spencer is a young man with few marketable skills. And at last he's finally found a way to use them.
As played by James Roday, Shawn is a charming wiseass that has never lasted at a job more than six months. But he is a skilled observer, an ability drilled into him from a young age by his police officer father Henry (Corbin Bernsen, "L.A. Law").
Shawn has been content to phone in tips to police, an easy way to pick up some reward money. But when he falls under suspicion and has to explain how he comes up with these tips, he hits on a solution: He tells them he's a psychic.
To aid him in this deception, he drafts his longtime friend Gus, played by Dule Hill ("The West Wing"), who does a series of delightful slow burns as the series' straight man.
Shawn is recruited by the desperate police chief to aid in the investigation of a high-profile kidnapping, to the chagrin of his father and a pair of detectives with whom he clashes. Using the clues he picks up, he and Gus solve both that and a resulting case. This leads to his setting up Psych, a psychic private-detective agency. Part of the fun is seeing how Shawn manages to keep fooling those around him.
This lighthearted romp is a good match with the show that precedes it on USA, "Monk," in which Tony Shalhoub has created a character for the ages as the "defective detective." For those seeking old-school crime solving with a hip edge, "Psych" is the place to be. (Dale McGarrigle, BDN Staff)
