Please clarify the rules for me! I get that you can drop or add a letter or change a letter, but cannot do both. But, can a player drop or add a letter or change a letter as well as rearranging the letters?

Here ya go: The object of this game is to change one letter ONLY, and make a new word. You can drop a letter or add a letter, but only change one thing. You CANNOT play off of your own word. Each word can only be used one time as well. Each word played must be found in an ENGLISH LANGUAGE dictionary online.
Example: player 1- part player 2-tart player 3-tarp

Okay, I get the rules, but I'm very confused about how LIE can become MILE. That requires two changes (LIE to ILE or MLIE--neither of which are real words--to MILE) and doesn't fit in with the rules that were just posted. Am I thinking about this too much? I understand the rules and they seem simple, but about half the posts in this game seem to be breaking the rules so that's throwing me off.

"MILE" came from "LIME" - please see Mouse's post, that's where I got it from by switching the letters around.

"MILE" came from "LIME" - please see Mouse's post, that's where I got it from by switching the letters around. I must have misunderstood. I saw this: ...and thought you were giving her another example of a word that could be made from LIE. That's certainly what it looked like in context, but I see that wasn't your meaning. My apologies. Still...I'm still not sure about all this letter switching. Seems like making MILE from LIME still requires two changes and not just one. If, for example, you moved the E to the front (meaning one change--and pretending it made a real word) and you got ELIM from LIME, that would be one change, but switching the M with the L means two letters are changing positions so that is two. I'm not trying to be difficult, honest! I am just trying to see how those rules fit in with what I'm seeing here so I'll know how to play.

Maybe this will help. Basically, all you can do is add a letter, drop a letter, or change a letter. The key is to only change one. If you switch letters around you are changing at least two.
My post above, for example. The word was mile so I added one letter to make it smile. Someone could change one letter in smile and turn it into smite.
The key is change only one letter. ;D
Does that help?

Well, then I guess I'm wrong, I just followed suit with what I saw happening (see pg. 4 - "LAM" then "SLAP"). I suppose I'll never be able to keep up with these things, will I. Thanks for clearing it up.

Far too much time on my hands today! Here's what we have so far in this game. Besides, it's kind of fun to see where things went from "POST." ;D - POST ;D - POET ;D - PORT ;D - POT ;D - SPOT - TOPS ;D - TAPS ;D - TRAPS - TRASH ;D - RASH ;D - GASH ;D - MASH ;D - MAST ;D - CAST ;D - CASH ;D - CASE ;D - CASK ;D - MASK ;D - MARK ;D - MARE ;D - MATE ;D - LATE ;D - LAKE ;D - FAKE ;D - FATE - FART ;D - FACE ;D - MACE - CRAM ;D - ACE ;D - LACE ;D - LAME ;D - BLAME ;D - BLARE ;D - GLARE ;D - FLARE ;D - FLAME - MAME ;D - CAME ;D - CAPE ;D - CAP ;D - CLAP ;D - CLAM ;D - LAM - SLAP ;D - FLAP ;D - FLOP ;D - FLIP ;D - SLIP ;D - SLIT - PILL - LIP - PILE - LIE ;D - LIME - MILE ;D - SMILE Key: ;D = Well Done! = Oops! OK, so can I change SMILE to: SMITE ? Someone could change one letter in smile and turn it into smite. Yup! SMITE it is! And I'm saying... SMOTE (Past tense of smite? Spell check accepted it.)
