August 16 was the day Elvis died. If you live anywhere NEAR Memphis, you can't escape the fact, as people still flock there for the candlelight vigils on the anniversary.
I used to live in Roanoke, VA, and the Epperlys had a tribute to Elvis that became world famous. I went with a friend to visit, and it was pretty much all we could do not to snicker while there.
Mini Graceland had fallen to the ruins of time, and the Epperlys' son has taken on the care and restoration. Here's an article, with pics:
