I heard this on the radio this morning and it cracked me up! This little blurb on it is funny, but doesn't do the audio version justice.
Bathroom update: Kyra's flushed
CNN anchor Kyra Phillips was caught with her skirt down yesterday when she left her microphone on during a trip to the ladies room.
The mortifying episode came when Phillips stepped away from her desk during coverage of President Bush's Hurricane Katrina anniversary speech. Viewers saw Dubya's lips moving, but they heard Phillips pulling down a zipper and making girl talk with another woman in the rest room.
"I have the most handsome man," Phillips gushed. "Just a really passionate, great, great human being. And they exist! They are hard to find, but they are out there."
Phillips' sister-in-law didn't get such positive treatment.
"I've gotta be protective of [my brother]," she was heard saying as she washed her hands. "He's married, three kids, but his wife is just a control freak!"
The mishap had CNN producers cringing.
"I hope it doesn't look like Kyra made a mistake, because it was actually a technical malfunction, not a human error," an insider told The News' Ken Bazinet.
The network later said in a statement: "CNN experienced audio difficulties during the President's speech today in New Orleans. We apologize to our viewers and the President for the disruption."
Doesn't the sister-in-law deserve an apology, too?

That really is funny! I've heard of this happening before with the little hidden mikes actors wear on Broadway . . . but never a story with such funny dialogue. How absolutely mortifying.

My brother just sent me a link to that footage, if anyone wants to see/hear it for yourself. It's even funnier the second time. This time I really heard her zip her pants. How embarrassing! Thanksgiving won't be pleasant in that family this year, after what she said about her brother's wife.

I just listened to it. It is funny as long as you're not her! I laughed for sure. Wonder how long it will be before she can laugh about it? You're right though. They should apologize to her too.

Shmeep you are so right - me thinks family holidays definitely aren't going to be what they used to be for a little while! Can you feel the love?

Last night on David Letterman:
Top Ten Kyra Phillips Excuses Presented by CNN Anchor Kyra Phillips:
10. "Still haven't mastered complicated On/Off switch."
9. "Larry King told me he does this all the time."
8. "How was I supposed to know we had a reporter embedded in the bathroom?"
7. "I honestly never knew this sort of thing was frowned upon."
6. "Couldn't resist chance to win $10,000 on 'America's Funniest Home Videos."'
5. "I was set up by those bastards at FOX News."
4. "Oh, like YOU'VE never gone to the bathroom and had it broadcast on national television!"
3. "I just wanted that hunky Lou Dobbs to notice me."
2. "OK, so I was drunk and couldn't think straight."
1. "You have to admit, it made the speech a lot more interesting."
At least she has a good sense of humor. It was smart of her to immediately go on national television and laugh at her mistake.
