"I have no fear of losing my life - if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it." Steve Irwin 1962-2006 At least he died doing what he loved and how many people can say that? And he would probably say it wasn't the stingray's fault. She was just protecting herself. Thanks Barb, for those great quotes.

For our enjoyment and remembrance: "Crikey means gee whiz, wow!" "Because when they strike it can be that quick that if they're within range, you're dead, you're dead in your tracks. And his head weighs more than my body so it's WHACK!" "I get called an adrenaline junkie every other minute, and I'm just fine with that." "I have no fear of losing my life - if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it." Steve Irwin 1962-2006 What great quotes Barb and karma heading your way for sharing them with us.

this is off track a titch, ,but all day on msnbc, the top headline was steve's death,, and the second one was of a cop killer " bucky" phillips,, that is going on just over the state line from me,, less than 50 miles
they have been putting psa's on the local stations all week, ,every one half hr at least about this jerk escaped from jail w/ 10 days left,, "allegedly " shot another cop,, has been on the run for months,, some of the local idiots decided to turn him into a folk hero,, and made up "run bucky run" shirts then he sneaks up on two cops on surveillance,, and shots them,, and a few days later , one dies the other officer he shot that same time is in the other hospital here in town i was not pleased with the exerpt they showed all day of steve and matt lauer,, i do agree that he should have taken more caution with his son, and not started "teaching" him at just a few months age, ,but they have so many other hrs of footage they could show honoring him i was taken by his forever youthful enthusiasm as well

For all the good things Steve did, he should not be remembered for one moment of bad judgement. There is and was so much more to him than that.

Steve's death has been all over the TV/news here and all the stations seem to be doing some kind of tribute to him. His zoo in Queensland was open for business as usual today; one of his staff said he'd have 'kicked their arses' if they'd closed the zoo for any reason! He certainly was loved all over the world.

Yes he was loved by all - and will be missed greatly. News reports said he's been returned to his family and there won't be a state funeral. Also, up for debate on the news sites, should the video showing his death be shown? While he was quoted as saying, "if I die, I want it filmed," I say no to that. Remember him for the passion and zest for life he had, that to me is best.

Remember him for the passion and zest for life he had, that to me is best. I think it's to his credit and to the credit of his family that they have refused a state funeral. His father said that Steve was just an ordinary guy and would want to be remembered as such. I love that. I never heard that he had said he would want his death to be filmed, although it doesn't surprise me. I did hear, though, that his manager and very close friend watched the footage and said he believed it should be destroyed. I don't think it will ever be made public and that's a good thing. Of all the things to get him! After decades of that lovable Croc Hunter playing with cobras and sharks and crocs and every other dangerous animal there is...a relatively harmless stingray did him in. I still can't believe it. My brother and I used to giggle over this one time when Steve Irwin was swimming with sharks...still wearing his ranger uniform. It was such a silly image! I really loved watching him. Yesterday I saw an old special on him and he was there with his wife as she gave birth to their son. It was so touching! And there was footage of him saying to an audience that no matter how much we all love animals, nothing can compare with how much we should all love each other. He had so much simple wisdom and there was nothing fake about anything he did. We saw who he was and that is why we all loved him so much.

Did anyone see the NY Post today? There's a cartoon drawing (I looked for it online) of a bunch of crocs holding clubs, knives, etc., all pissed off looking and a stingray saying "uh-oh.."
