I am sitting here in Northeast Arkansas, glued to a tv that I seldom even turn on, watching as events unfold from the weather that has had me up most of the night.
Friday, from about 4PM until...well, it's still going on at half past noon on Saturday, we have been under a tornado watch in my county. We were lucky last night; most of the severe weather was about twenty-five miles north of us. At one point, there were seven tornados on the ground in the three counties surrounding us. Lightning strikes were amazing! So many that instead of seeing the little crosshairs for each strike, the map was solid with strikes. It was reported that over 2400 hit a three county area in SIX MINUTES!
People were sending in video of the lightning, tornados, and hail to the local tv station. One shot showed softball size hail, sitting atop a Coke can. I've never seen stuff like this.
The counties up around the Arkansas-Missouri border were hit hard last night by the continuous "train" of thunderstorms that came through. Over fifteen inches of rain in some areas, and there are entire campgrounds washed away. Over two dozen people rescued from trees, and two people are unaccounted for and presumed dead. It's awful.
It's pouring outside, lightning popping occasionally, enough to have me too worried to go out to the store. (I'm down to my last scoop of cat food. The natives will get restless.)
I'm sure I will be fine; it's the people up near the rivers that I'm concerned about right now. Pray, send good vibes, whatever you may do; there are people in serious need. The stories are just beginning to come in, so it will be hard to assess the damage for a while.
