I am not sure how far reaching this story has been - if it is known anywhere outside of Toronto's borders - but for over a year now, through the Toronto Star on-line, I have followed the story of a young boy viciously attacked and murdered in 2003 by the older brother he once idolized. In a fit of rage, he was dragged into the basement of his east Toronto home and stabbed to death, 71 knife wounds inflicted on his little 12-year old body. For so long now, he has been known to the world who didn't know him only as "Jonathon." In 2005, his mother created a website to honor him but because the accused murderer and his accomplices were juveniles (his brother was 16) at the time of the crime, and with the trial approaching, the website was taken off-line to protect the identity of the under-age youths. As of yesterday, with the sentence for this most heinous of crimes finally served on the boy who is now a man (age 19) and will face much of his punishment as such, the young victim finally has a face and a name, Jonathon Robert Madden. If you chance to read this post and visit the website www.johnathon-madden.memory-of.com/, please light a candle in his memory. Like many others who have done so, I didn't know him - but I will never forget him.

Thanks for this longlashes. I don't think the story did get too much play outside of T.O. I'm in Canada and a news junkie, and the first I heard of it was the sentencing on the news.
What a terrible, terrible shame. I can't imagine being a parent and having one sibling kill another. Do the parents still love the killer? Maybe with time, and maybe each case is different. I know the parents of Karla Homolka were actually helping her get settled after she was released from jail. So they still have contact with her, but I suppose love is another story.

The whole situation is so sad. This mom not only lost Jonathan, she lost her other son too and probably a big part of herself as well.
