Is the Canadian economy in as much trouble as the U.S. economy? How is the economy in Australia? I don't know if the economy as a whole is as bad, but the unemployment situation is worse. The banks here are well regulated, and the World Economic Forum in October said we have the soundest banking system in the world. (Australia came 4th and Denmark 5th, Chris, in the same report). But layoffs related to the crisis are at over 71,000. The news said that in proportion to population, that is more than the US has had.

The Daily Show covered Canada yesterday and I thought of you, Inuvik. There are two clips about this at the site, one is called "Provinces in Peril: Indecision Oh-Eh" and the other one is just called "Provinces in Peril" and features silly interviews with the three Daily Show correspondents who are foreign--one of whom is Canadian. I thought it was pretty funny--especially Jon Stewart's description of what's happening. thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=212887&title=provinces-in-peril-indecision

That was hilarious. I'm impressed we were the lead story too. The bit about Harper's hair really made me laugh. He must single-handedly keep hair gel and hairspray stores in business.

The 2008 election is finally over. Congratulations, Senator Franken!
Memo to President Obama and the Democrats in the House and Senate: You now have no excuses. Stop trying to make nice with the Republicans and start doing the job we elected you to do!
