Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice saying, "I'll try again tomorrow."

Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend. Unknown, (often attributed to Albert Camus)

I have seen a snark variation on it that is very funny: Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just leave me the h$@& alone.

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?
Thanks to someone for these and others that gave me a good laugh!

Life is a highway of learning and none of us are ever too old to travel it.

Saw this today, on a church signboard:
Lead your life...don't follow it around.

A DAY OFF
So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for. There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work. Since you spend 16 hours each day away from work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available. You spend 30 minutes each day on a coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available. With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work. You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work. We are off 5 holidays per year so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work and I'll be damned if you ar going to take that day off!

I am about to get ready for that one day of work. I haven't done the math, but this doesn't sound right. Especially for me since I am now up to 21 days vacation per year. Does that mean I should stay home today? Sincerely, Confused in RI

A Blonde Mother's Letter to her Son
Dear Son,
I am writing this slow because I know you can't read too fast.
We don't live where we did when you left. Your Dad read in the paper that most car accidents happened within twenty miles of home, so we moved. I can't send you the address as the last blonde family that lived here took the numbers with them for their next house so they wouldn't have to change their address.
This place has a washing machine, but the first day I put four shirts in it, pulled the chain and haven't seen them since.
It rained only twice last week--three days the first time and four days the second.
About the coat you wanted me to send you. Aunt Sue said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with them heavy buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pockets.
About your sister--she had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it's a boy or a girl, so I don't know if you are an aunt or an uncle.
Your Uncle John fell in the whiskey vat. Some men tried to pull him out, but he bravely fought them off and drowned. We cremated him and he burned for three days.
Three of your friends went off the bridge in their pick-up. One was driving and the other two were in the back. The driver got out-he rolled down the window and swam to safety. The other two drowned--they couldn't get the tailgate open.
Aunt Mabel is knitting you some socks. She would have sent them by now, but I told her that you had grown another foot since she last saw you, so she has to knit another one.
Not much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.
Love Mom

We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work and I'll be damned if you ar going to take that day off! Oh, I love this! Dubious use of maths / statistics! (Be still my heart...) Mind you, this is where I get to gloat have to be very sympathetic to my poor friends across the pond and say very sheepishly that this doesn't work for me. If I apply these calculations to my work situation, I apparently don't work at all. By the time I've taken out my annual leave and public holidays, apparently I actually don't do any work for something like 377 days in any given year! (Do you really only get five public holidays a year? I'm stunned if that's the case. How is that possible? Christmas? New Year? Easter? July 4th? And don't you get a long weekend for Thanksgiving?) As for the letter from the Blonde Mom... My favourite line is closely followed by: Something about the cremation and burning just tickled my funny bone. Actually, the line about rain reminds me of a joke I once heard about Manchester (England): Manchester has fifty weeks of rain a year, and two weeks of bad weather. Sad thing is, there is more than a grain of truth in the joke. When the Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester, a visitor to the city from the Southern Hemisphere was heard to ask in all seriousness why the games hadn't been held in the summer. It was August at the time, and it was raining... Krissie

(Do you really only get five public holidays a year? I'm stunned if that's the case. How is that possible? Christmas? New Year? Easter? July 4th? And don't you get a long weekend for Thanksgiving?) I know, it's well known that the European countries get way more statutory holidays than us. Here in Canada, we get: New Year's Day Easter (1 or 2 days--Good Friday yes. Now many of my friends working for private corporations don't get Easter Monday anymore, it's turning into a gov't holiday) Victoria Day (May) July 1 (Canada Day) August long weekend, can't offhand remember what this one is Labor Day (September) Thanksgiving Monday (October) Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) Christmas Day Boxing Day (again, lots don't get it anymore) Some provinces also have a special one in Feb, to break up the time between Jan. 1 and Easter, it's a looooooong stretch. It's often called Heritage Day or Family Day. So it really varies!
