I recently bought the movie The Conspirator about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln starring James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn. If you're fans of McAvoy, Penn or historical movies in general I don't think you will be disappointed. To top it off, this week the man who played Lincoln was in the library where I work! Talk about six degrees of separation--I was this close to James McAvoy! This movie premiered in DC at Ford's Theatre (which is a short walk and a few metro stops from where I live) last April and I didn't know about it until I saw coverage of it on the news that night. I could have popped downtown and seen James McAvoy in person on the Red Carpet! Grrrrrrr! Just missed him! Of course I knew the movie was coming out. As you can see by my avatar, I'm a wee bit obsessed with McAvoy. I just didn't know he was going to be in town. I was able to see the movie a few weeks later with Kenina and we enjoyed it quite a lot. Great historic piece, great cast, and great acting. Makes me want to wander around my area and find all the historic places again. The Surratt boarding house is now a Chinese Restaurant and I took my parents to see the Surratt House (the homestead out of town) once, but the museum was closed so we just saw it from the outside. I pass Ford's theatre fairly often. I've never had the tour, but I will one of these days.

If you haven't seen the Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner yet why haven't you? I don't know what all the fuss was about because Renner is not playing Bourne but an entirely new character. To be honest I didn't miss Matt Damon at all. After watching it you really wonder what is going on behind the closed doors of some of these government agencies!

I saw it and liked it!
The early "Alaska" scenes were filmed in Alberta in the Rockies in December. Spectacular.

Ooooh not recommended as of yet but The Hobbit is coming out soon and if Peter Jackson hasn't lost his touch it will be a good one. Martin Freeman (Watson on Sherlock Holmes) is Bilbo and Ian Holm reprises his role as the senior Bilbo. I'm a fan of Aidan Turner (Mitchell from the BBC series Being Human) who plays Kili, one of the dwarves.

I've read the Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring. The Hobbit follows the book pretty closely but you won't miss anything by not having read it. I don't know how many times I've been disappointed by a movie having read the book prior to seeing it. They never get it right! Let me know what you think of the movie.

I went and saw Lincoln this weekend. Daniel Day Lewis is fantastic in the role and the supporting cast --what can I say but wonderful. The movie focuses on the struggle to get the House of Representatives to ratify the 13th Admendment abolishing slavery. If you want to take a look at how things were done in government in the 19th century (not all that different from today), are a Civil War buff or a fan of Lincoln go see this movie! I can see why it garnered all those Oscar nominations!!!

Saw the new Hobbit movie, the Desolation of Smaug. Even though there are characters that weren't in the book I still loved it. The visuals are stunning, what I think we've come to expect from a Peter Jackson movie. And there's what, a whole 'nother year before the next( and final) movie?

Wouldn't doubt it. That's about how long it usually takes.

Saw Monuments Men this weekend. For those who don't know the story its the exploits of museum curators and art collectors, who worked to recover art stolen by the Nazis toward the end of WWII. I really enjoyed it; one of those hidden stories that emerges only years after it happened. I highly recommend it though I'm sure it was tweaked some to make it more for the "big screen". And speaking of the big screen I hadn't seen any of the films nominated for the Oscars last night

Highly recommend Philomena, it also is a true story and a very tragic one.

Saw Frank Grillo in "Captain American". He had a really big part, and now I read that he will become Crossbones. Really nice to see his career continue to climb.
