I've posted Chapter 5 of my fic "Weekend in the Country," over at ff.net. I will also post it here for those of you who find ff.net hard to use. Here's the link for the rest of you - and thanks for your feedback and encouragement. Thanks also, although I say in my author's notes, to shmeep, who had a lot to do with how this chapter turned out. www.fanfiction.net/s/2426606/5/

Thanks for completing Chapter 5, Kenina. It turned out just great. I love the unresolved tension from Christie's dad and how his cranky presence can be felt even though he never even makes an appearance in this chapter (although his car engine sure sounded irate).
And Jim by the river? Gorgeous moment, especially when Christie knelt beside him and put her hand in the water too. I'm looking forward to whatever showdown is inevitable between Jim and Jeff.

Hallelujah! I was so glad to see this post - it's been a long time coming but so very worth the wait. I love that you have allowed others to walk in Jim's shoes, even briefly, to see the world the way he sees it. And I, too, found the moment at the creek to be very moving, the hands in the water, the way Christie shared that with him, the sheer happiness it brought to Jim. Just another beautiful installment to this story!

I whole-heartedly agree with Shmeep and Long Lashes, a beautiful chapter. It was great to see that Jim thinks that Christie sometimes "over-estimates" his abilities--a nice change of pace! Jim and Jeff are almost too much alike for their own good. Can hardly wait for the next installment.
