Maggie's comment about Alec Guiness being the perfect George Smiley and a conversation at work last week about whether or not Tom Hanks should be playing Robert Langdon in The DaVinci Code got me to thinking about the fit between actors and roles.
My takes on a few:
Role: Capote Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman Fit?: Yes
Role: Inspector Lynley in Mystery Actor: Nathaniel Parker Fit?: No Who should it have been?: Paul Bettany
Role: Robert Langdon in The DaVinci Code Actor: Tom Hanks Fit?: No Who should it have been?: We couldn't decide.
What do you think?

Anna, this is a wonderful idea for a thread. I'll think of more later, but right now I wanted to agree with you about the bad casting in the Lynley mysteries. Not only was Tommy wrong, wrong, worng, his clothes looked as though he'd never been anywhere near Savile Row or a decent tailor. And Helen was wrong, too -- I'd always envisioned a young Diana Rigg, veddy breezy and elegant.
This is going to be fun. ;D

Can I say that any male starring, leading, big role should have been cast with Eric Stoltz? ;D
But seriously--like maggie, I'll need to think about this. Good idea! Maybe we can do TV roles too.
