Its also thrilling to speak to another Melburnian fan!

What format dvds do you use in Australia? Is it Region 1? Just wondering, because I know when I sent a dvd to a friend in the UK, she couldn't play it.

Region 4 in Australia. This may or may not present a problem, I'm not exactly sure.
I think Australia's are usually in PAL format and I think unconverted American discs are often NTSC? A lot of Aussie players can play NTSC aswell? I don't actually know what I'm talking about.

Mine is a cheap, crappy DVD player and it can play NTSC so I would say most can. Also, I think you may be the lovely Canadian I was referring to earlier. FP hasn't received them yet but we're both thrilled about it Thankyou.

Indeed she is My player has played Region 1, 2 & 4 in the past. As well as NTSC so it should be fine! If not, I'll work it out lol. There's code thingys you can put into the player to make it all-region or something.

Ohhhhhhhh, so NTSC and Region 1 do mean the same thing? I was never sure of that. Well, I feel confident in the fact that discs will work for me. YAY. I'm good at pretending I know what I'm talking about.

Oh, you Oz gals -- so open and friendly. ashatan, have you checked out this board's recap threads for the earlier episodes? I don't want to be a spoiler if you're waiting for videos from a stateside pal, but you can get a wonderful sense of the episodes there, also in the heated -- and detailed -- discussions that followed. We are nothing if not passionate! Not to mention international. Love ya, Mags Hi International Maggie, Just saw this - don't know how I missed it before. I have ( now) checked out all the recaps and loved them. I also watched and rewatched all the art videos by kenina and LL which show snippets of things and it is like getting a lick of the ice ccream but not the lot - a great apetiser!!!! I have to admit to several hours spent hooked to my PC "watching" epsidodes througthe recaps. I have no idea what it will be like to finally see them, I expect it will be wonderful, like seeing the full 360 from the top of the mountan when you've been catcing glimpses through the trees on the way up. Cheers, natascha PS I was in Sydney today and it was glorious weather, sunny and warm!

NTSC and Region 1 are not interchangeable.
Region 1 is Canada & USA. The format is NTSC (which, according to smart aleck TV engineers stands for Never Twice the Same Color.)
Japan is another region altogether, but also uses NTSC.
The regions are designated for marketing and release date purposes. Say a movie opens in the US in January and comes out on DVD in August. The same movie opens in Japan in July. The company wants Japanese moviegoers to see the movie in the theatres, so the Region 1 DVD can't be played in Japan because of the Region coding. Of course, as someone said there are code-thingys you can input to overcome that.
The NTSC, PAL and SECAM (France) designations are based on the number of frames per second each country uses. NTSC is 60 frames/second (30 interlaced) and PAL is 50 frames/second (25 interlaced). It's sorta like taking your American hair dryer to Britain -- not only is the plug different, but the speed of the motor is different.
I'm sure this is more detail than you ever wanted ...

Not quite but there's alot I'm sure we missed! Have you checked out the Audio Descriptions for the eps? They're pretty cool, almost like an audio book lol. I play them in my discman, on the train and I'm sure people think I'm nuts because I'll start giggling at something hehe.

Only we have to wait til I get all my eps, I have not seen the pilot or anyting before Past Imperfect! natascha You are in for a real treat! As you may have figured out already from reading the board, some of the best episodes are in the first six. Three of my four favorites are. I'm kind of envious that you have the experience in front of you. I wonder -- will you be able to resist doing a " Blind Justice Marathon"? I'll hope you'll share your reactions after you've seen them.
