Tomorrow morning, Tuesday, May 16, the Tony Award nominations will be announced. Can we cross our collective fingers that they finally come to their senses and recognize the work of a truely great actor? Wouldn't it be wonderful if he was nominated in this catagory? Quote from an article on Northjersey.com:
There's a new category this year -- the best replacement actor or actress.
To be eligible, a performer must be contracted to appear for at least six months in a show from a previous season. There are a number of possibilities, but two probable nominees will be Eileen Atkins ("Doubt") and Jonathan Pryce ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels").

I would like to contribute to the fingers crossed bunch but that makes it extremely difficult to type. So I was thinking of crossing my toes instead but alas, that seems to be one of those talents that skips a generation - I can't do it but my son can.
Although I haven't seen another show on Broadway this year, I was more than impressed by what I did see in January to think that it would behoove someone to finally recognize this man for his incredible talent and what he brings to his craft!
Come on Tony!

I am sooo dumb! How dumb am I? I've thought all day that today was Tuesday and couldn't figure out why no one had posted the results for the Tony Awards. Duh! Today is Monday and has been all day. Now I have to hope and cross my fingers all...night...long too! How did I lose a whole day? Scary.

Nominations are out and Ron is snubbed again. In fact Doubt was snubbed completely. For some reason they did not nominate anyone in that new catagory that was listed as "best replacement actor". Speculation was that Eileen Atkins would be nominated for Doubt but it is not even listed today as a catagory.

On the official Tony Award web site it is listed under Discretionary Awards and just added this year. Apparently at their discretion they decided no one was worthy. Best Recreation of a Leading Role by an Actor/Actress Beginning in 2006, this award may be bestowed by the Tony Administration Committee to honor up to one actor and one actress in a given season for an outstanding performance in a "recreated role." Cast replacements in leading roles--performers in long-running shows who join a show after its opening night--are be eligible for this award.

Page Six of the NY post said Sean Penn was at a "Doubt" performance. Paying close attention to the priest; possibly in preparation for a movie adaptation. EGW

If what was posted yesterday was accurate -- the actors had to be contracted for a minimum of six months -- then I'm not sure the repacement cast of Doubt even qualified. Didn't they open beginning of February?

Didn't they open beginning of February? Yes Maggie you are right, (even though one source did speculate that Eileen Atkins may have been nominated). It does say for a minumum of six months. I believe they began Jan 11, so that would only make it four months for them up to this point. Good job and I guess a good enough explanation why they passed up this wonderful cast.

When we spoke to Ron after the play 2 weeks ago, he said he was contracted through June. Hello Dunbarslady, I like your avatar. Natascha

I can't see him as Father Flynn at all! Here's an idea, how about RON ELDARD as Father Flynn?!
